Took me an embarrassingly long time to start using/paying for Kagi, but now that I’m here it’s sooooo nice not seeing Google shit jammed into every corner of a simple search results page. #kagi #googlesucks

Google/Alphabet is flat-out determined to make EVERYBODY pay them a monthly fee for storage. They've announced plans to count all Android backup data against your Google cloud storage. When that happens, what are the odds that millions of people will suddenly find themselves out of storage?
And don't forget, once you're out of data space you will no longer be able to receive email. Probably no longer be able to text. Hell, you might not even be able to browse the web anymore, assuming Google decides that cookies are part of your storage!
We funded the creation of the internet. Big Tech has stolen it. It's long past time we took it back.

I think I saw an image of a graffiti showing #SamAltman once which had text along the lines of:
"Just five more billions, bro, I'm begging you"
Can anyone help me find it? #AI #GoogleSucks

Google AI search results are so fecking accurate. Yeah...............
Not.
This is me trying to find out the BBFC age rating for Pixar's Hoppers before pre-watching it to see if it's okay for kiddo.
Google AI: It's a PG.
BBFC: It's a U.
Bit of a big difference. But the AI results give an immediate, incorrect, answer that I'm sure a lot of people won't think twice about.

I completely agree (though I’ve never used ‘premium’.)
There’s far too much information on each page. I preferred the previous, more succinct display. I could find the information I wanted quickly and easily.
Now, it’s just a mess! Overkill.

Anybody else plagued by Google's takeover of Fitbit? A disaster! A coach that is oblivious, screens that are a confusing mishmash of color and gadgetry, painfully non-intuitive navigation. Google, have you ever done technology before? What a joke, painful too given healthcare is the goal.
NOT WORTH PAYING FOR PREMIUM GOOGLE HEALTH ANYMORE.
Bottom line, I'm mad as hell and not going to pay this anymore. (Fat chance, this is AI being forced down my throat just like everybody else.)

I've used the paid version of VideoDownloadHelper for a very long time to download videos or MP3s of videos to my PC. As a digital survivalist, I've seen too many videos disappear into the aether; I prefer to keep copies of anything I don't want to lose.
But VideoDownloadHelper and YouTube are in a constant war. YouTube keeps trying to break VDH, and VDH keeps catching up. Right now, YouTube's ahead. They've somehow managed to break the ability of VDH to download ANYTHING from certain videos, although oddly enough not •all• videos. Unfortunately the ones you can't download are the ones I want.
Luckily the various "YouTube to MP3" download sites still work. So fuck you, YouTube/Google/Alphabet!

Out and about this morning and Google Wallet decided I couldn't use it to make payments.
I always carry my wallet just in case but some cards in GW are digital-only. Is there some kind of single-purpose piece of hardware designed to be used as a digital wallet without Google in my business? I'd much prefer that.

Since Google chat is now completely broken, I tried to email a friend to let them know.
This was the result.
Just to be clear, I CANNOT send them an email. As soon as I click "OK", the email •closes•.
So apparently Google is out of the email and chat business. And of course also out of the search business. I guess they are just in the stealing business now.

Google has successfully broken Google Chat, or Gmail Chat, or Gchat, or whatever the hell it is this week. They reached into my phone and replaced the working Gmail Chat with Google Workplace, which is completely broken.
And it's not just my phone. They did the same thing to my son's phone. I've been expecting Google to do something like this for quite a while, so it's time for me to find a new chat or messaging app to use with friends and family.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Annoying flaw in YouTube music:
You can select multiple songs in a playlist, but you cannot move them. They can only be moved one song at a time.

You realise how #google has been using #security #trust and lots of such synonyms to showcase their nonsense steps as worthy. They know they have lost the actual #trust in people, so they are trying useless things and giving it name of trust and security and blah blah. What a bunch of crap.
Stop kidding yourself foogle. You are not fooling anyone, and for sure you are not at all trustworthy. Hollow words and useless changes which further lock everyone out, is unfair usage of your powers. @EUCommission seriously you need to STOP these nonsense from #foogle who should be stripped off their powers.Like I said, bring them down to their knees and make them beg us users, then also we will not, as they have not done anything right in decades. #googlesucks

It's a Leaflet map, actually, not a Google map.
Well, at least the map at the bottom of the page is - the one at the top is the old map based on Google, which I want to replace with the new one (because #GoogleSucks ).

Google is stealing the whole Internet.
I looked up Project Gutenberg on Google. Clicked on the link. Used the search box to find a book. Used Share to copy the link. And that link...was a Google copy. Here it is, slightly munged because I don't want to give Google the clicks:
A Shropshire Lad by A. E. Housman | Project Gutenberg https: //share.google/A0nO7OWm4c2uVLgD2
Now mind you, I didn't take this directly FROM Google. I clicked on the Project Gutenberg link from Google, yes. But then I used the search box on Project Gutenberg itself. So this was two clicks in. Nonetheless Google hijacked the link, flat out stole it and replaced it with a "share Google" link.
Google doesn't own Project Gutenberg. Google didn't do any of the work to make the books available on Project Gutenberg. I'm sure Project Gutenberg didn't agree to let Google steal all their links and clicks. Nonetheless, that's what Google is doing.
And I'll be very surprised if they aren't doing that for EVERY OTHER LINK that could be shared from a site that someone finds via Google.
That is barefaced robbery on a global scale.
Who is going to stop them?
By the way, just in case you were wondering: Yes, Project Gutenberg has their own website with their own actual Project Gutenberg links. Here's the link that I was actually •trying• to get:
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5720
Sneak preview, this is going to be my recommended book of the day. 😜

Okay, what the FUCK is wrong with Android voice dictation? It's just getting shittier and shittier all the time, with huge surges in errors.
Someone needs to start Louigi-ing Big Tech executives.
Or big "check" executives, as Android apparently thinks it should be spelled.
Prediction: Android is going to start onboard-censoring everything we say or write.

I've been using Gmail for all my email since forever, but it recently informed me that it'll stop supporting non-gmail accounts. I just set up Thunderbird for all my email. I absolutely hate Thunderbird. Why does Google have to ruin everything?
-
Google has removed voice and video chat from Google Chat, and stuck them in Google Meet instead. Without telling anyone, apparently. There certainly wasn't a notification in Google Chat. And that function was there a week ago, so this is very recent.
I want to see every Google executive hung from a lamppost before I die.

#Google to tap into gas plant for #AIDatacenter in sharp turn from climate goals
#Texas power plant would emit 4.5m tons of carbon dioxide per year, more than that of the entire city of San Francisco
Dara Kerr, Thu 2 Apr 2026
"According to Crusoe’s 465-page permit application, the power plant would emit as much as 4.5m tons of carbon dioxide, a primary driver of climate change, per year. For comparison, the entire city of San Francisco emits about 4m tons of carbon dioxide annually."

It recently dawned on me that almost all of my notifications are advertising, except for message notifications. And even some of those are just ads in one form or another.
But this one I particularly hate. It doesn't even make sense, and I don't see any way to block it.

Just making a note that the Google weather app took a huge leap towards further enshittification recently.
Instead of showing a convenient view of the weather for the next 10 days and the day's precipitation, it now shows a bunch of shitty Google links. Much less useful.

Unified Attestation is a free, open-source alternative to Google Play Integrity. It delivers short-lived integrity tokens signed by a single backend, verified offline by app servers, & issued via a privileged Android system service. It can live alongside Play Integrity, & it’s simple to integrate for app developers on both the app and server sides.
An initiative by Volla Systeme GmbH.
