  10. Well here's a curious #soda find.

Helloamerica(.fi) sells American and nowdays Asian sodas, candy and whatever. Not a new concept, plenty of companies out there that send Japanese stuff for example to Europe, which is how some of the stuff you see me post about landed here. This company however gets me most of the US sodas and thanks to them being a wholesaler, several larger super markets stock their stuff too.

This here is their own brand Tropical blue soda. If you've ever tasted the blue Calypso, this is very close to that. That mystical fruity, but otherwise nondescript candy-like taste.

    Not bad.

  18. Some months ago I came across cherry 7up. I always found that weird thing as with these lemon sodas whatever is added to them generally takes over the whole flavor.

Here's even weirder one, 7up tropical from US. If there's ever something that smells fruity, this one certainly does. It tastes nothing like what I'd expect 7up to taste, reminding more of the exotic fruits Fanta than a lemon soda.

It's not bad per se, it's actually one of the better ones when it comes to these alternate taste versions of known sodas. The branding just seems weird.

And in case you're wondering, the drink itself isn't clear like normal 7up but more like deep orange.

  23. Some time ago I posted about the #finnish Hartwall Omena, the apple #soda that absolutely doesn't even remotely taste like apple but is still weirdly good.

Well here comes the clone. The cheapo store chain Lidl has for some weird reason made their take on the topic. Typically Lidl sells their generic Coke-Fanta-Sprite clone lineup, so them doing a small country's niche soda's clone is really curious.

The smell is so close I was not sure at first if they had OEM'd it from Hartwall. The taste was close too, but then the aspartame completely ruined it for me. With actual sugar I would've called this a very strong competitor for the real thing. The disappointing thing is that their orange soda has a killer bang for your buck and it has just sugar in it.

  36. Another Hello Kitty #soda today, Kuromi.

As the previous one I got, this one's made in Sweden under a license.

it's grape and blueberry, which is actually a pretty decent combo. Too bad this one has the same problem as the Hello Kitty one: nothing in the taste is real. Again it's apple juice that aromas in it to give it a crude approximation of blueberry and grape, but not a great one. Also artificial sweeteners.

I need to get my hands on the Japanese version to see if it's any better. Or even related in any way.

  38. This is Hello Kitty Strawberry Vanilla #soda.

One might expect this to come from Japan, but this specific one was made in Sweden under a license. Many years I invented a decent drink on cruise ships: take some strawberry slush, put some vanilla flavored vodka in it and top it up with Sprite. This is very close to that, sans the alcohol.

A sad part is that there's no strawberries and vanilla extract in it. It's actually apple juice with some lemon juice mixed in it and the rest is artificial. It also has two separate artificial sweeteners in it, which finishes off the "nopety-nope" combo on this one.

I swear I saw this in Japan too, now I need to import some and see if theirs is better.

    #hellokitty

  39. Today we have Chupa chups, but in #soda form.

This Korean find tastes pretty much like the lollipop of the same brand. Not a typical soda taste, almost closer to carbonated juice than traditional sodas. A bit weird sensation, but okay. Bonus points for having actual sugar in it and no BS sweeteners.

  42. Back to #finland with today's #soda weirdness.

This is Pommac, one of the sodas I definitely make foreign visitors taste when they first come to Finland.

It has berries and fruits in it, what exactly is a mystery. But so is the taste. It's very often offered as a non-alcoholic alternative to bubbly drinks. It's been around since 50s in Finland, originally introduced in Sweden in the 20s, although the original recipe was by a Finnish-Swede.

  43. For lunch today, trying a new-to-me soda: Roxa-Kola! It was originally made in 1906 by G. L. Wainscott, a hyperlocal bottler out of eastern Kentucky, whose family-owned operation is now known as the Ale-8-One Bottling Co. Roxa-Kola, and all of their other non-ginger-ale products, were dropped shortly after the name change in the '60s. This is supposedly a faithful rerelease.

It's a rather standard cola. Bonus points for being Appalachian, but the slogan basically sums it up.

  45. I recently posted about the US version of Fanta Peach, which I like very much, to a degree I declared it's probably my new favorite Fanta flavor.

I found this from the other side of the world: 芬达 水蜜桃味汽水, or Fanta Peach-flavored soda from mainland China.

This seems to be pretty much the same thing, maybe a bit sweeter but still great. I wonder why Europe never got these, we've been stuck with the same orange Fanta with maybe some one shots specials here and there.

Also this can was pretty interesting to examine, as I recently also posted a picture of the Hong Kong market passion fruit - grape fruit Fanta. It had both, English and Mandarin text on it, but this can is purely in Mandarin, save a very small "Coca-Cola Company" copyright hidden next to the bar code.

  46. This is Juju cola by Olvi, another local soda.

This is like a train wreck. A huge "SUGAR FREE" jumps out from the label, making me question my life choices for paying 4.70€ for this god awful piece of shit in an amusement park arcade's cafeteria.

It tastes artificial in so many ways. The horrible taste of sweeteners slaps my face like a piss soaked towel. Then comes the super artificial "cola" taste. It makes me wish I had ordered water.

There's absolutely zero redeeming qualities in this. It's an embodiment of everything that's wrong with today's sodas.

I'm fairly sure if I had pissed in a pint later, that would've been better than this.
