Having a disability NEVER became cool, Poppy; being cruel did.
So, I saw a weird headline on social media today: “How having a disability became cool“. Oh dear lord, here we go again. Another author of “news” that is entirely made up… Deep sigh.
Poppy Coburn, Associate Comment Editor for The Telegraph, takes a pop at the “‘sickfluencers’, are turning chronic illness into a lifestyle trend”. Except the only ones using that word are news outlets trying to sell newspapers. It’s made up.
Two years on, there’s an avalanche of results talking about it. The thing is, all of those pages and pages of news articles are all quoting each other. It’s as if a whole trend has been summoned into being just so the people summoning it can be outraged.
Another title for this might have been: Why is the press so keen to demonise my people? Because the right-leaning whiney-bitch newspapers (such as The Sun and The Daily Mail) lead the charge in attacking people with mental health issues, coining the term “sickfluencer” back in 2024.
Disabled people living with mental health conditions came on the receiving end of an exponential surge in corporate media attacks against benefit claimants in 2024.
REVEALED: MSM disproportionately targets mental health-related DWP claimants in attack articlesThis is the thing, there’s no such thing as a “sickfluencer”. It’s a BS term that the panic merchants want to sell you because hate and panic make money.
The DWP already apply rigorous means testing. Under the Conservatives, they turned that assessment up to 11 to placate the Daily Mail. The result was chaos, suffering, and deaths. There’s no free ride on benefits.
The mind boggles that people believe that sick people are getting £60,000. If that were the case, where’s my cash? Oh, right, it doesn’t exist.
Under both Conservative and Labour governments, the DWP have colluded with the press to demonise younger claimants living with mental health issues, ADHD and autism. Ministers have joined in, to create a smokescreen which obscures the politically inconvenient truth that the majority of those at risk of losing their personal independence payment (PIP) under the Green paper proposals are older people with physical health conditions – many of whom have worked all their adult life until they became ill.

The truth that so frightened these journalists is that suffering in silence is a thing of the past. I certainly gave up struggling unseen – I started a whole blog about it.
Just because I picked up a physical disability, it doesn’t make the mental health crap I suffer from any less real. Now I get a pass because I have a “real” disability. I’ve got a strange brain and a broken body – that’s twice as hard, not easier.
I’m not sitting back in my mansion raking in piles of cash. I’m spending money I don’t have to try and live my life somewhat normally. Yeah, I get a bit of PIP. It’s not a fortune. It covers a few cabs and some assistance. Just like everyone else, I have to budget as well as I can to get by. I am not part of the have-yachts; I’m part of the have-to-be-careful crew. Same as most everyone else.
Rather than reposting two-year-old Daily Mail BS, can we not have a journalist with a shred of journalistic integrity willing to call out the snowballing lie? But no. Apparently, Poppy would rather repeat the attack line given to her by the hate media just so there’s someone the rabid crowd can point out as “the reason things are bad”.
If the billionaire newspaper owners can get you hating the poor and the sick, maybe you won’t notice that they were the ones that fucked up the world.
Struggling weirdo’s like me are not the reason for the cost of living. We’re not trying to be cool. You are being lied to by the 1% through the mouthpiece of the likes of Poppy Coburn.

#BurntJacket’s Future and the #Billionaire Rumor

By Emily Patrick"In our October 31, 2024 Edition of the Moosehead Lakeshore Journal, we broke the story of the #BurntJacketMountain sale and the closure of its popular hiking trails, publishing a Letter to the Editor written by local author and trail enthusiast, Chris Keene.
Chris wrote, “A large landowner on Burnt Jacket Mountain…is taking steps to close all three trails on the mountain. That means the Blue Trail, the Green Trail, and the Red Trail will be closed down permanently.” He continued, “To have an entire trail network wiped off the face of the earth would be a mighty blow, not just for hikers, but for regional businesses.” These trails, though crossing through private property, were open to the public for at least 20 years prior to the recent sale, as the recovered logbooks prove.
We followed up on the story in our November 14 2024 Edition after obtaining a building permit from LUPC outlining the new owner’s plans for the parcel. Here’s an excerpt: “A building permit for a portion of the property was submitted by Sevee & Maher Engineers out of Cumberland, Maine, on behalf of Burnt Jacket Holding I, LLC for a ‘proposed barn off Burnt Jacket Road in Beaver Cove.’ The project summary for permit number 17544 reads as follows: ‘Agricultural barn. Includes Tractor and Equipment storage, feed storage, hayloft, greenhouse, and chicken coop.’ Another portion of the project with permit number 17544-A describes a, ‘Year-round dwelling with attached garage, detached garage, driveway, and one shed. Install well, septic system, and utility lines.’ Both appear to have been approved by LUPC representative Billie J. Theriault on August 22, 2024.
Recently, the Moosehead Lakeshore Journal reached out to the Natural Resources Council of Maine for comment, and #NRCM’s Staff Scientist and Woods, Waters, & Wildlife Director Luke Frankel poignantly shared, “The loss of Maine’s longstanding tradition of public access to private land is one of the greatest threats facing the #NorthWoods. This case at Burnt Jacket Mountain is a potent example of what we’ve been hearing from other parts of the state.
Changes in landownership and a rise in development pressure since the pandemic have changed the landscape of the Unorganized Territories. Our land trusts, outdoor recreation clubs, and other local community-based organizations play a critically important role building strong relationships with landowners to solidify the trust that is at the core of Maine’s tradition of public access. We also need to begin a statewide conversation about this emerging threat to identify solutions and pathways for ensuring equitable public access is a value held by everyone.”
Though the story of Burnt Jacket Mountain has caused quite a stir and exemplifies a statewide issue, six months later, we still don’t have answers, and not for lack of trying. Recently, however, a new pending project on the parcel has raised some eyebrows, and whispers of the true identity of the landowner have narrowed down the list of possibilities as the Journal has uncovered new clues.
The new Burnt Jacket project, which is still awaiting permit approval from LUPC at the time of publication, is for a “…proposed driveway…4059’ long and 16’ wide with a minimum of 2’ wide shoulders on both sides; it is located entirely on private property…Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2025.” The permit application says the driveway will be used for “residential and land management” uses.
Perhaps more interesting than a pending driveway permit, one name has risen to the top of the list of rumored buyers. Though it remains speculatory, the Moosehead Lakeshore Journal has uncovered evidence that seems to point to billionaire tech CEO Mark Zuckerberg, one of the property’s rumored buyers.
Though, much to my chagrin, it seems anyone and everyone involved in the Burnt Jacket project has signed a non-disclosure agreement, I found that Zuckerberg very publicly keeps his business holdings in the State of Delaware. While searching through the State of Delaware’s website, I came upon an interesting clue: Burnt Jacket Holdings I & II both list Incorporating Services out of Delaware as the Registered Agent.
While this in and of itself doesn’t mean very much, I decided to search META, which we know is owned by Mark Zuckerberg, in the same database. In my search, I found that at least three of the dozens of META companies associated with Mark Zuckerberg actually list the very same Incorporating Services as the Registered Agent. While this information doesn’t prove Zuckerberg is the Burnt Jacket mystery buyer, it does little to dismiss it. Of all the holding companies in the world, the same Incorporating Services serves as the registered agent of Burnt Jacket Holdings and several companies we know are associated with Mark Zuckerberg. Coincidence? You decide.
It may seem unbelievable to some that Mark Zuckerberg might soon be our neighbor here in the Moosehead Lake Region, but it really isn’t that far of a stretch. One of Zuckerberg’s former associates owns property in the Moosehead Region, Zuckerberg has been known to vacation in Maine, and Mark Zuckerberg held a highly publicized meeting in 2017 with members of the Katahdin Region in Millinocket to discuss the future of the area. As many know, the Katahdin Region is right in Burnt Jacket’s backyard, at least as the crow flies."

Retro SciFi Film of the Week…
Jurassic Park (1993)
In 2013, this film was re-released so I think even most young people have seen it. Plus it was turned into a franchise so there are about a half-dozen of these Jurassic blah..blah..blah films out there now. For those of you who have been extinct and recently revived, this film is about a guy who took DNA from fossils and de-extincted various dinosaurs and put them into an amusement park. What could go wrong?
I’m including this one in the Retro SciFi series because it will likely be in the news soon. It stars Laura Dern, Jeffrey Goldblum, and Sam Neill.
One of the notable aspects of this film is that it marks the transition from the use of mostly practical effects in the film industry to primarily using digital effects. The dinosaurs were mostly high-quality robotic puppets, but digital techniques by Industrial Light and Magic were also used for scenery and composites.
There’s a real story here and top-notch acting so it’s not just a bunch of FX, which it makes it worth watching.

Goldblum’s character is asleep in a jeep when he hears the thunderous footsteps of a dinosaur. He looks at a puddle and the water shows waves of disturbance from the seismic vibrations. He calls and gestures to two other characters who jump into the jeep (“Start the engine!”) and they speed away as a T-Rex chases them. (“Must go faster.”) The T-Rex gains on them. Goldblum accidentally bumps the stick-shift in the jeep. (Driver: “Get off the stick, bloody move!”) (Dern: “Look out!”) The jeep drives under a fallen tree trunk and the T-Rex crashes through the tree trunk shattering it into pieces. (more screams) The T-Rex tries to bite them and he bumps his head against the jeep. The jeep finally pulls away and escapes. (Goldblum: “Think they’ll have that on the tour?”)
