I saw a news post about deer archery in North Dakota, and after clicking, I was disappointed to find out it wasn’t as I imagined.

However, it gave me an opportunity to see how the ChatGPT, Gemini, CoPilot and Claude sloppications would handle things as I saw them in my head.

Archery is very good for clearing your mind of the mundane frustrations of day-to-day life, and replacing them with more arcane frustrations.

I didn't shoot as well as I did last week, but there were a few tantalising glimpses of accuracy, just enough to suggest that I could actually shoot well if I just did some more practice.

The weather was decidedly less glorious for archery practice this week. Overcast throughout with intermittent light rain, but at least it wasn't windy.

In all other respects things were improved. I got through 20 ends and, more importantly, shot more accurately. I mostly hit red and gold, which is good for me at 50 metres, and even managed a couple of ends that were all red and gold. The new limbs are beginning to feel really good, it was a good decision to step up my draw weight.

As usual the red rumped parrots were strutting about on the range like they own the place, which they kind of do. Always nice to see them up close when walking to collect my arrows.

Another drawing completed when I ought to have been working on something else.

I reined back on the more fantastic elements here (no horns, wings or anything!) to draw an archer in the wilderness.

The last few drawings I've done have been particularly bright and colourful, so this time I drew something with more contrast, the light coming from behind the subject as if she's entering into a ruin or cavern. I hope it works.

They're very old, they've got no fletchings although there are signs they once did have.

I'm guessing "no", unless there's a museum who might want them.

Gestern das erste mal wieder beim Bogensport Training teilgenommen.

Sagen wir es mal so, Treffen ist zweitrangig, Rhytmus und Gefühl auch erst mal.
Die Richtung stimmt aber schon erst mal.
Fokus war gestern auch nicht da, aber woher sollte der auch so schnell herkommen.

Die Hand hat es erst mal mitgemacht, hat sich aber alles noch sehr "mitgenommen" und verkrampft angefühlt und Steif.

Also eine ganze Reihe an Aufgaben, an denen ich jetzt erst einmal für mich Arbeiten kann, um wieder in den Fluss zu kommen.
Danach fangen wir dann mit Treffen an.

Ich musste mir aber Abends noch eine Schmerztablette einwerfen. Der Hand geht es so weit gut, von Super bin ich aber leider auch noch weit weg.

I didn't shoot well today, but it felt good anyway.

I swapped out the limbs on my bow to slightly increase my draw weight, and spent a while dialling my sight back in. Even after I'd done that I continued to extend the lifetime of the club's target butt by not hitting it in the middle, and even missed it entirely a few times.

Nonetheless the new limbs feel good, the weather was glorious, and I think the white limbs look great on the blue riser. It's just nice spending time at the range shooting arrows.

after wanting to try for decades, a year ago we signed up for a beginners' course in archery - and here we are a year later, still doing it and loving it!

this is a big deal for us as a nonbinary wheelchair user, our local club is very inclusive on both fronts - and we shoot with a horse bow, because standard recurve bows are too heavy

and we've been getting better at it! and the people are lovely, and in summer the school grounds are beautiful, big old trees ☀️🌿

I set myself a challenge for the summer holidays to do at least 100 shots every day when I can practise. (There is a beautiful pair of limbs waiting for me to get stronger.) I practise with 9 arrows. Every day after round 11, this starts playing in my head.

After a gap of 4 weeks due to school holidays, etc., I shot 18 ends yesterday and I am definitely feeling it today. It's mostly my shoulders/upper back though, so at least I was using the correct muscles.

I really should be doing some conditioning exercise in general, but especially when away from home where I can't practice.
