eine weitere Episode, bei der ich am Birkenrohling arbeite.
Die Form steht, es geht jetzt langsam in den Bereich, wo man wirklich von einem Rohling im Übergang zu einem Bogen sprechen kann.
Das Stück ist mir doch über die Zeit echt ans Herz gewachsen

Glorious late autumn weather at the archery range this afternoon. 21°C and sunny with light winds, and the red rumped parrots were hanging out next to the targets again.

The kid was coached with the club juniors group and meanwhile I had a good practice by myself down at the far end of the range. I am moving in the right direction in both conditioning and accuracy, and managed to get through 20 ends before fatigue became an issue.

It's great that our archery club got some new target butts, but when shooting into them two weeks ago most of our arrows came out of the targets covered in glue and bits of foam. Up until recently this wouldn't have mattered, but now we're using clickers it is an issue. I noticed last weekend that sometimes the clicker was catching on this crud and getting dragged backwards out of position when drawing.

Rubbing with an isopropanol dampened cloth is getting it off, but it's going to take a while to get through all two dozen stabby-sticks.

The huge and very deliberate aesthetic distinction between target archery and bow hunting does amuse me though.

Bow hunting gear is all camo patterns and a generalised tacticool aesthetic, which does make some sense at a practical level.

Target archery, on the other hand, goes out of its way to be NOT THAT. The governing bodies' determination to maintain a distinct, family friendly image goes as far as outright banning camouflage patterns from all equipment and clothing during competition. Instead it's all bright colours and big logos all over everything, in keeping with most other modern sports equipment.

I'm happy to be on the target archery side of this, and more than happy to indulge my kid's desire that all of their equipment should be red and all of my equipment should be blue.

Uh-oh. I'm being tempted by archery bling. I absolutely do not need a carbon fibre clicker with anodised parts colour coordinated with my bow's riser. I've already got a plain steel and black plastic one that works fine. I do want one though...

Was lovely to be back to doing #archery outside last night but it was hecking cold! Didn't quite get dark enough for lighted nocks to be as properly showy as they can be.

New limbs, new “candy cane” string, new quiver and extra arrows. Now pulling 29lb. Outdoor season starts afresh… bring on that Bowman classification. Oh, and an outdoor competition booked. #archery #RecurveArcher #ArcheryGB

I can, currently, just about cram all of the kid's and my archery gear into one Legend XT-720 archery backpack. I can cycle with this on my back, but it is pretty heavy and bulky.

That is why I'm interested in the Burley Travoy bicycle trailer, which is basically a two wheel hand trolley that can attach to your bike: https://burley.com/en-in/products/travoy

I think I could strap the archery backpack straight to the trailer, which would take the load off my back and make the ride to and from the range even more pleasant. Bonus, the Travoy folds down small for storage, so wouldn't take up much space while not in use.

Archery practice for me today, while the kid was getting coached as part of the club's juniors group.

I'm getting some condition back so had much less difficulty with fatigue than I had last week, and got through 16 ends over an hour and a half or so. I'm still getting used to using the clicker, but I did hit mostly red at 30 metres distance which isn't too bad for me. I would like to be consistently hitting mostly gold though, which I have done in the past at this distance.

The kid and I cycled to and from the range today, we're really lucky to be within easy cycling range of the club. It's a really nice ride too, off road shared use paths almost the entire way. At 3.2 km on level ground each way it makes for a good gentle warm up and warm down.

Properly the best group I shot with the Trad bow.
The bow is an Oak Ridge Hardwood 62" one-piece recurve at 50#. And I am shooting some Skylon Archery Bentwood Spine 400 arrows off the shelf of the bow. No sight, stabilizers or any other equipment.
Target is a 122cm target face at 40 meters distance.
If I could just do this everytime 😜
