La presidente Claudia Sheinbaum advirtió que la persecución contra migrantes impulsada por Donald Trump afectará a Estados Unidos. Afirmó que estas políticas no tienen sustento humanitario ni económico.
Durante una conferencia este viernes, Sheinbaum respondió a la aprobación de la llamada “Ley Grande y Hermosa”, promovida por el expresidente estadounidense. La legislación contempla mayores recursos para el ejército y el Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE).
“No estamos de acuerdo con actos persecutorios y este trato como criminales le hará daño a su economía”, señaló. Recalcó que la migración se debe atender de raíz y no con medidas punitivas.
Sheinbaum indicó que el propio Trump suspendió redadas en hoteles tras quejas del sector empresarial por afectaciones operativas.
Migración, tema estructural
Subrayó que millones de migrantes llevan años en territorio estadounidense. “No solo mexicanos, sino personas de toda Latinoamérica, que aportan a su economía”, afirmó.
La mandataria informó que presentará avances del programa México te Abraza, el cual brinda atención a deportados. Explicó que la mayoría llegan a Tapachula y Villahermosa, donde existen centros de atención habilitados.
Indicó que trabajan para evitar actos de corrupción por parte de autoridades migratorias mexicanas contra los repatriados.
Mientras tanto, la Cámara de Representantes de Estados Unidos aprobó el megaproyecto de ley con una votación ajustada: 218 a favor y 214 en contra.
Nueva carga fiscal a migrantes
Uno de los puntos más polémicos de la legislación fue el impuesto a las remesas. Aunque inicialmente se planteó en 5 %, se redujo al 1 % tras negociaciones.
El gravamen aplicará desde el 31 de diciembre de 2025 y afectará transferencias fuera del sistema bancario formal estadounidense. Las enviadas desde cuentas o tarjetas emitidas en EE.UU. quedarán exentas.
Aunque acotado, el impuesto podría desincentivar el envío informal y abrir la puerta a esquemas evasivos. En 2023, México recibió más de 63 mil millones de dólares en remesas.
Expertos advierten que el nuevo cargo impactará directamente a familias que dependen de esos recursos para subsistir.
Ganancia política, costo social
La aprobación representa una victoria política para Trump. El mandatario participó directamente en las negociaciones y presionó a legisladores para apoyar la ley.
Solo dos congresistas republicanos votaron en contra, mientras sectores conservadores críticos terminaron por alinearse con la Casa Blanca.
El paquete incluye la extensión de recortes fiscales implementados desde 2017 y una baja temporal de impuestos sobre propinas y horas extra.
Para compensar, se reducirán recursos a programas sociales como Medicaid y asistencia alimentaria, afectando a población de bajos ingresos.
Impacto presupuestal en EE.UU.
De acuerdo con la Oficina de Presupuesto del Congreso (CBO), la ley incrementará el déficit fiscal en 3.3 billones de dólares en diez años.
Se estima que entre 11.8 y 17 millones de personas podrían perder su seguro médico. También se prevé el cierre de decenas de hospitales rurales.
El líder demócrata Hakeem Jeffries criticó el proyecto y afirmó que busca desmantelar el Estado de bienestar. Su intervención durante la votación duró más de tres horas.
La Cámara rompió récords al deliberar más de siete horas una sola moción procedimental. La votación fue tensa y seguida por miles de personas.
Firma programada el 4 de julio
La firma del proyecto se programó para el próximo 4 de julio, Día de la Independencia de Estados Unidos. Con ello, Trump busca capitalizar el acto como símbolo de fuerza.
Sheinbaum reiteró que el gobierno federal trabajará para proteger a los connacionales que enfrenten deportaciones o discriminación.
