  1. Really loved #UVM University of #Vermont and their #bike friendly campus.

Check out these indoor storage options— really wish #nyc campuses would adopt.

  2. A hot air balloon came in for a landing in a field not far from home. I dashed into the house to grab my camera and a long lens to try and get a nice full frame. Fired off a couple shots before it dropped below the tree line. I love when it works out!

August 25, 1983, 43 years ago today: After the shelter, the Appalachian Trail passed through private lands for the final seven miles of the day. It remained, for the most part, in the woods, but crossed a few open pastures.

August 25, 1983, 43 years ago today: The first couple of miles followed a congenial little brook up to Little Rock Pond. I have seen so many mountain lakes lately, but this may have been the nicest of all.

  5. Universe, please make it possible for us to move permanently to #Vermont. It’s so gorgeous here, and with all my liberal-slogan T-shirts, I’d fit in just fine here. ☀️

  6. Am vacationing in #Vermont, sitting in the shade in a cabin’s forest–yard, engaging in my favorite #sport, #reading. The doggo is keeping me company while my mate & one son ride on a bike trail. Other son & his family are driving up here to vacation in the cabin near ours.

August 24, 1983, 43 years ago today: I crossed over several knobs along the crest to Peru Peak. This summit, at 3429 feet, was the highest I crossed today, but the peak was heavily wooded.

August 24, 1983, 43 years ago today: A 12:45 start today. I had four major mountains to climb. I would need to average almost two-and-a-half miles per hour, rest stops included, in order to complete this section by dark.

  13. I'll never get tired of tree-lined rivers & creeks along a mountainside, with rocky beds and the sound of rushing water.

This is from the Texas Falls area in Vermont (within the Green Mountain National Forrest).

August 23, 1983, 43 years ago today: The initial four miles were a piece of cake. The Appalachian Trail traversed flat terrain through dense forests. I breezed quickly over that stretch to make some time for later.
