China’s rise, Europe’s decline and Bernie Sanders’ dark hour.
Bernie Sanders really laid it on thick this week: AI is dangerous, AI brings illness and death, AI must be regulated – and by, er, the US! Who else, for that matter? The EU might be an option, but they’re getting new fax machines this week, so there’s not much time left!What Bernie – and, in fact, the entire so-called ‘West’ – is overlooking is this: AI is already here. The US model of privatising humanity’s knowledge and selling it back to people at a premium via a handful of public limited companies has failed. Everyone has missed the Deepseek moment. Whether out of colonial arrogance, fear or simply a lack of critical thinking: to this day, the actual neural revolution is being completely overlooked.
Deepseek: for those who don’t know, this is the first Chinese AI model to have been made available completely free of charge and as open source for the whole of humanity. A step of unprecedented magnitude. The next ‘Sputnik moment’ then came last month with the release of Kimi K3. Kimi K3 is arguably the most powerful software ever created. It is a so-called ‘frontier’ model, meaning it is on a par with the US’s triple-trillion models, only it is out in the wild.
We need to realise what this means. Everyone – and I mean everyone – has free access to the cutting-edge technology of our time. This represents a democratisation of AI technology on an unprecedented scale. Xi Jinping made this clear in July in his brief but substantial speech at the AI Summit in Shanghai. In the very first principle, the ‘Principle of Openness’, Xi made the following remarkable statement: ‘We should seize this rare, historic opportunity to promote open source.’ Since then, with Kimi K3 and Gwen 3.7 – and all those yet to come – the world has had access a large part of humanity’s knowledge in condensed form.
But this also means that regions such as Western Europe can no longer afford to wait. Defending digital infrastructure alone will soon be impossible without AI support. With the nationalisation of the AI industry under Trump, the US is no longer an option for Europe. Through WAICO, China, Russia and the BRICS nations are rolling out this knowledge across the globe. I bet they must be laughing out loud at times; I’d be doing the same in their shoes.
Just to give a few recent examples. A few weeks ago, China launched a global simulation. Due to sanctions imposed by the US government, China was forced to develop highly efficient AI models. Thanks to its open-source nature, this technology can also be applied in other fields. A simulation involving 1 billion agents was launched. Each agent corresponded to a human being with emotions, desires, flaws and so on. The first tests were the usual game theory tests, but as early as the second run, the spread of information amongst the global population was simulated. What this means for someone who cannot access this knowledge remains to be seen in the (European) future.
A second example, which is of great relevance to Germany, is car manufacturing. Modern cars are built with aluminium frames. This is a technically demanding process, as aluminium cannot be cast. The individual parts must be skilfully welded together. Using AI technology, China has discovered an aluminium alloy that can, in fact, be cast. This means: everything is made from a single ‘cast’, with no weld seams; the manufacturing process is simple and low-cost, and the structure of the frame can be adapted to the actual loads it will bear. A giant leap forward. And Germany simply cannot do it.
And, in fact, similar and even more impressive reports are coming in on a daily basis. WAICO is set to roll this out across the Global South. And, secretly, I hope that Europe carries on sleeping and ends up footing the bill. 500 years of colonisation – that adds up to quite a lot.
For my part, I’ll carry on running Chinese AI systems locally; so far, they’ve been quite friendly! Overtaking without catching up (I’m laughing my head off).

Bernie Sanders hat diese Woche auf den Tisch gehauen: KI ist gefährlich, KI bringt Krankheit und Tod, KI muss reguliert werden, und zwar von, ähm, von den USA! Von wem auch sonst? Die EU käme noch infrage, aber die bekommt diese Woche neue Faxgeräte, da bleibt wenig Zeit!Was Bernie und eigentlich der gesamte sog. „Westen“ übersieht: KI ist hier. Das US-Modell, das Wissen der Menschheit zu privatisieren und über ein paar Aktiengesellschaften teuer an die Menschen zurückzuverkaufen, ist gescheitert. Alle haben den Deepseek-Moment verpasst. Sei es aus kolonialer Überheblichkeit, aus Angst oder schlicht geringem Denkvermögen: Bis heute wird die eigentliche neuronale Revolution vollkommen übersehen.
Deepseek: Wer das nicht weiß, ist das erste chinesische KI-Modell, das vollkommen frei und Open Source für die gesamte Menschheit verfügbar gemacht wurde. Ein Schritt ungeahnten Ausmaßes. Der nächste Sputnik Moment kam dann letzten Monat mit der Veröffentlichung von Kimi K3. Kimi K3 ist wohl die mächtigste Software, die jemals entstanden ist. Es ist ein sog. Frontier-Modell, also auf Augenhöhe mit den Tripletrilliarden-Modellen der USA, nur halt in freier Wildbahn.
Was das bedeutet, sollte man sich klar machen. Alle, wirklich alle haben freien Zugriff auf die Hochtechnologie unserer Zeit. Das ist eine Demokratisierung der KI-Technologie ungeahnten Ausmaßes. Xi Jinping hat das im Juli klar gemacht in seiner kurzen, aber inhaltsschweren Rede auf dem AI Summit in Shanghai. Bereits im ersten Grundsatz, dem „Grundsatz der Offenheit“, sagt Xi folgenden bemerkenswerten Satz: „Wir sollten diese seltene, historische Chance nutzen, um Open Source zu fördern.“ Seitdem stehen mit Kimi K3 und Gwen 3.7 und allen, die noch kommen, der Welt ein Großteil des Wissens in komprimierter Form zur Verfügung.
Das heißt aber auch, dass Regionen wie Westeuropa nicht länger warten können. Allein die Verteidigung der digitalen Infrastruktur wird ohne KI-Unterstützung schon bald nicht mehr möglich sein. Mit der Nationalisierung der KI-Industrie unter Trump fällt die USA für Europa weg. Mit WAICO rollen China, Russland und BRICS das Wissen in der ganzen Welt aus. Ich wette, dass die manchmal laut lachen müssen, ich würde es an ihrer Stelle machen.
Nur um mal ein paar aktuelle Beispiele zu nennen. China hat vor ein paar Wochen eine Weltsimulation gestartet. Durch die Sanktionen der US-Regierung war China gezwungen, hocheffiziente KI-Modelle zu entwickeln. Diese Technologie erlaubt es, dank ihrer Open-Source Natur auch in anderen Bereichen eingesetzt zu werden. So wurde eine Simulation mit 1 Milliarde Agenden gestartet. Alle Agenten entsprachen einem Menschen mit Gefühlen, Wünschen, Fehlern usw. Der erste Test waren die üblichen Spieltheorie-Tests, aber schon im 2. Durchlauf wurde die Verbreitung von Information in der Weltbevölkerung simuliert. Was das für jemanden bedeutet, der auf dieses Wissen nicht zugreifen kann, wird die (europäische) Zukunft zeigen.
Ein zweites Beispiel, was Deutschland sehr betrifft, ist der Autobau. Moderne Autos werden mit Aluminiumrahmen gebaut. Das ist ein technisch anspruchsvoller Arbeitsprozess, da man Alu nicht gießen kann. Die einzelnen Teile müssen gekonnt verschweißt werden. China hat mit KI-Technologie eine Aluminiumlegierung gefunden, die man doch gießen kann. Das heißt: alles aus einem „Guss“, keine Schweißnähte, einfaches Herstellungsverfahren, kostenarm, und die Struktur des Rahmens kann den echten Belastungen angepasst werden. Ein Riesen Schritt nach vorn. Und Deutschland kann es einfach nicht.
Und eigentlich täglich kommen ähnliche und eindrucksvollere Meldungen. WAICO wird das im globalen Süden ausrollen. Und insgeheim hoffe ich, dass Europa weiterschläft und die Rechnung bekommt. 500 Jahre Kolonialisierung, da kommt was zusammen.
Ich für meinen Teil werde weiter chinesische KIs lokal betreiben, bis jetzt waren sie ganz freundlich! Überholen ohne einzuholen (ich lache mich tot).

"Student-loan borrowers could lose their Social Security checks if they fall behind on their loan payments. Democratic lawmakers want to put an end to that practice.
"On Monday, Sens. #BernieSanders, #ElizabethWarren, and #EdMarkey introduced a bill to prevent older student-loan borrowers and borrowers with disabilities from facing Social Security garnishment if they default on their payments.
"A fact sheet of the legislation reviewed by Business Insider said that the bill would prohibit the Treasury from seizing Social Security payments, including Social Security Disability Insurance, and protect those borrowers from 'unnecessary forced collections.'
"Sanders said in a statement that 'in the richest country in the history of the world, no senior should have their Social Security payments taken away from them to pay back student debt.'
" 'This is especially true when seniors throughout the country already cannot afford the skyrocketing price of healthcare, prescription drugs, groceries and housing,' Sanders said. "Congress must pass this legislation.'
"The legislation comes as student-loan defaults are at a record high. Over 9 million borrowers were in default as of March, according to the latest Education Department data, which happens when a borrower has missed payments for 270 days.
"The New York Federal Reserve's latest household debt report showed that student-loan delinquencies stood at 10.6% in the second quarter of 2026 — up from 10.3% in the first quarter. Pre-pandemic delinquency rates were around 11%, and researchers said the latest data showed that delinquency is stabilizing. Yet researchers said that number could rise again due to the elimination of the Biden-era SAVE repayment plan, which gave borrowers affordable payments and a shorter timeline to debt relief."
