Con un credo de lealtad a Trump, los republicanos cierran la convención para ganar las ‘midterm’.

Dallas.- Con la mano derecha levantada en un credo de lealtad al presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, y con la promesa de ir a votar por los republicanos en las ‘midterm’, las elecciones legislativas de medio mandato en noviembre, el partido en el poder cerró una inusual convención nacional republicana en Texas con la que buscan animar a sus bases para retener el control del legislativo.
«Por favor, levanten su mano derecha», instruyó el mandatario a sus seguidores, en un corto discurso de cierre de la jornada. «Le juro al mejor presidente en la historia de Estados Unidos, que nos ama tanto que ni puede respirar, que irán con mi familia (…) a votar el 3 de noviembre».

Este cierre maximalista hizo aún más explícito lo que las encuestas han anunciado por semanas: la probabilidad de una victoria demócrata en la Cámara Baja y una apretada contienda por el control del Senado (50/50, según el agregador de sondeos Decision Desk HQ).
La agenda de la convención, que fue apodada por el liderazgo del partido como ‘Trumpapalooza’, una especie de «carnaval» de Trump, estuvo centrada en alabar su Gobierno, sus logros y su misión cuasireligiosa de «salvar» el país de la «izquierda radical».
Además de Trump, que habló ambos días de la convención, el primero en un discurso de casi dos horas, por el escenario del American Airlines Center en Dallas pasaron varios miembros de su gabinete, incluyendo los que ocupan puestos tradicionalmente alejados de manifestaciones de política partidista como el fiscal general, Todd Blanche, y el secretario del Tesoro, Scott Bessent.
El discurso de Vance
El vicepresidente, JD Vance, también dio un discurso en la segunda noche, al igual que el gobernador de Texas, Greg Abbott, el senador Ted Cruz y varios candidatos republicanos al Congreso en estados considerados «bisagra» como Minesota o Nevada.
Vance pronunció un discurso nacionalista y nativista, centrado en la defensa de la clase media, la familia tradicional y lo que describió como el «derecho de nacimiento nacional» de los estadounidenses.
«Tenemos que enviar un mensaje este noviembre: el país no pertenece a los radicales, no pertenece a los burócratas y no pertenece al mejor postor», afirmó Vance.
«Este país nos fue entregado por nuestros padres y por los padres de ellos. Recibimos este derecho de nacimiento nacional», agregó.
Vance también desestimó las críticas a la guerra en Irán como una mera «cuestión política» y pidió a los republicanos que se oponen al conflicto que no entreguen el país «a un montón de gente loca», en referencia al Partido Demócrata.
La guerra, uno de los asuntos más delicados para los republicanos de cara a noviembre, apenas tuvo espacio durante la convención, enfocada principalmente en la economía, la inmigración y la defensa de la gestión de Trump.
La promesa de Trump que califican como «poco realista»
El mandatario estadounidense prometió el miércoles entregar 5.000 dólares a cada adulto estadounidense si los republicanos conservan el control del Congreso.
Trump no explicó cómo se financiaría la propuesta ni mediante qué mecanismo se repartiría el dinero, aunque aseguró que provendría de la recaudación arancelaria.
La iniciativa ha sido calificada de poco realista por expertos legales consultados por EFE, ya que un desembolso federal de esa magnitud requeriría, en principio, la autorización del Congreso.
Tanto Trump como Vance dedicaron parte de sus discursos a atacar al candidato demócrata al Senado por Texas James Talarico, quien mantiene una estrecha disputa con el actual fiscal general del estado, el ultraconservador Ken Paxton.
La convención es la primera de este tipo celebrada por el Partido Republicano, ya que estos encuentros suelen tener lugar en años de elecciones presidenciales para proclamar al candidato a la Casa Blanca.
Esta vez no hubo candidatos que nominar ni una plataforma política que aprobar. El objetivo fue usar la figura de Trump y transformar la lealtad hacia él en votos para los republicanos que sí aparecerán en las papeletas el próximo 3 de noviembre. –sn–

"Netanyahu met with senators on Wednesday, with leaders for both parties, Senators #JohnThune (R-South Dakota) and Chuck Schumer (D-New York) in attendance. Lawmakers proudly posted photos of the meeting, saying that they discussed the genocide in Gaza and praised Israel and the U.S.’s war on Iran during the meeting.
"Netanyahu also met with House Speaker #MikeJohnson (R-Louisiana), the latter of whom said in a post on social media that the two 'discussed America’s commitment to Israel’s security and our shared goal of achieving a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.'

"In fact, earlier this week, the U.S. State Department threatened the ICC in a UN meeting ahead of Netanyahu’s visit, demanding that it drop the charges against Netanyahu and Gallant and terminate 'all investigations and all arrest warrants' against Israel.

However, despite agreement from both parties on the objectives of the genocide, Netanyahu left Washington without the parties announcing a deal.
