I'm Canadian, so the idea of universal health care being deemed too risky a proposition to run on seems odd. That said, our current centrist government, the Liberals under Carney, are not doing much of anything to protect and further enhance our universal health care. And they're actively cutting taxes for the rich. And bizarrely, they're quite popular. So, I understand the option to go with the "safe" choice. But simply hoping to slow the chopping of services hardly seems inspiring.
Anyway, I do take heart that some progress has been made by democratic socialists in Washington, D.C., and House primaries in New York, Detroit, Philadelphia, Michigan, and Denver. And in Canada, the NDP does seem to be growing a bit. Since the NDP took on a more democratic socialist stance, I saw a large increase in youth involvement at my local electoral district association.
