  6. DSA-backed candidates won two of seven U.S. House primaries and six of eight state legislative primaries in Tuesday's elections across Michigan, Missouri, Kansas, and Washington.

U.S. House winners: Rashida Tlaib cruised to re-nomination in Michigan's 12th District. Donavan McKinney unseated incumbent Shri Thanedar 51.9%-48.1% in Michigan's 13th, making Thanedar the 8th House incumbent to lose a primary this year. That ties 2020 for the second-most House incumbents defeated in primaries.

The losses: Former Rep. Cori Bush fell short in her rematch against Rep. Wesley Bell in Missouri's 1st District. Four other DSA-endorsed House candidates also lost.

State legislative wins: Jimmy Lappe (MO HD-81), Isaiah Harris (KS HD-3), Shaun Scott (WA HD-43), Jaelynn Scott (WA HD-37), Dylan Wegela (MI HD-26), Chris Gilmer-Hill (MI HD-8).

Mixed night, but McKinney's upset is the headline. He took down a self-funding millionaire incumbent who had AIPAC backing and a 10-to-1 cash advantage, running on Medicare for All and ending military aid to Israel.

  8. Voters in Missouri and Kansas rejected all three constitutional amendments that Republican legislatures placed on Tuesday's primary ballot.

Missouri Amendment 4 (80-20%): Would have required citizen-led ballot initiatives to win a majority in every congressional district, not just statewide. GOP lawmakers gerrymandered those districts heavily, including erasing a Democratic seat earlier this year. The effect: conservatives would get veto power over broadly popular progressive amendments. Voters saw it for what it was.

Missouri Amendment 5 (83-17%): Would have phased out the state income tax and expanded sales taxes to replace the lost revenue. The third-largest defeat margin in state history.

Kansas Amendment 1 (61-39%): Would have abolished the state's merit-based Supreme Court nominating commission and switched to direct judicial elections. Republicans placed it on the August primary ballot (lower turnout, more GOP-leaning) hoping to eventually install anti-abortion justices. Same playbook they tried and lost in 2022 when voters upheld abortion rights 60-40.

The thread connecting all three: Republican supermajorities tried to change the rules after voters kept bypassing them on Medicaid expansion, minimum wage, abortion rights, marijuana legalization, and paid sick leave. Voters said no, decisively.

So I went to my chalkboard and filmed a quick Hebrew lesson on the language of politics, elections, and democracy. Because these are words worth knowing in any language, especially now.

Whatever you believe, wherever you stand, come learn a little Hebrew with me today. 🇮🇱

  25. Its pointless to complain and grumble. How about bringing about change? Change does not mean supporting another opposing political party. 26. > Trump pushed Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, saying that the bill “requires that all voters must show photo voter ID. How simple is that?” The bill requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote, he added. But it may not be that simple for some voters. Election experts say the bill would make it difficult for some to register and cast a vote. ...

Under the bill, Americans would need to prove citizenship when registering to vote or changing their registration. For most people, that would mean presenting, in person to an election official, either only a U.S. passport, or a certified birth certificate along with a driver’s license or other government-issued photo ID. Election experts have raised concerns about millions of Americans not having a passport or ready access to their birth certificates, and the bill creating too many hurdles to cast a vote.

    Hold onto that.

Because the problem is not that none of it is true.
