Was just riding my bike over a two lane Road Bridge, where I needed to be in the right lane, to get where I was going.
Woman in a silver station wagon first tried to cut me off at some lights before the bridge then drove up behind me on the bridge, honked at me and then shouted out her window “get in the shoulder!”
Clearly she hasn’t read her road code recently that cyclists are supposed to take the correct lane for where they are going and take the lane where necessary. We aren’t even supposed to be in the shoulder at all.
Sometimes I feel like I should wear a shirt while biking which says on the back “if you honk at me don’t be surprised if you get the finger!” She did.

Long books are long… Weekly Recap 9/7/2026
Two of the longest books in my occult collection are Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy and Manly P. Hall’s The Secret Teachings of All Ages, the first of which clocks in at just a mere 1024 pages.
Now… Three Books of Occult Philosophy—for me at least—isn’t the type of book you just sit down and read cover to cover. It’s something you use as a reference book when necessary and just go through a particular section. Of course, since it’s three books, does it really count as one long book? Surely it does.
And with The Secret Teachings of All Ages… I haven’t actually read it. I’ve listened to it as an audiobook. It’s 28 hours long, but I’ve made my way through the entire thing at least once.
That counts, right?
Daily writing prompt What’s the longest book you’ve ever read? View all responsesGood morning and happy Monday, friends!
I hope you’re all laboring on this fine Labor Day.
- New M3 Episode: Stacey Williams-Ng, Sacred Space, and Southern Soul
- New Highlights: Kamden Cornell, Poppet Magic, and On Pins and Needles
This past week, I’ve been practicing my bed surfing skills. Or maybe a better term would be bed skiing?
No, no… for real.
We got our new mattress delivered. Nobody told us that memory foam arrives rock hard and needs to be broken in over several weeks. To accelerate that process, I’ve been taking short walks on the bed—or sometimes pretending that I’m surfing or skiing.
It’s having an effect! Or at the very least, I have convinced myself it’s having an effect. And now I perceive the mattress as slightly softer than it was a few days ago.
After all my fun carving runes in stones, I decided to expand it to an entire set. I’m still working on ironing out some of the kinks, but we’ll see where it goes when I have some time.
I managed to get a new episode of M3 out on schedule and a new writeup of an older episode. For your viewing pleasure, go watch!
And my biggest accomplishment over this past week: my YouTube channel has now achieved partnership status. It’s been quite a long road to get here… and honestly I was about ready to give up. About a month ago, YouTube announced that the requirements to join would double in February (from 4000 annual watch hours to 8000), which put a rather obnoxious countdown timer in my head. I made a Facebook post a few weeks ago asking friends for help to reach that goal… and we’ve succeeded! So… thank you everyone!
Over on The Occult Rejects, we streamed a fun conversation about FinalSpark, a strange company that is trying to turn neurons into computers. Crazy stuff!
At some point I made vegetarian burrito bowls with spicy black beans and cilantro lime rice. Turned out pretty well.
Selene and I have been watching a lot of terrible movies lately. I mentioned Backrooms a couple of weeks ago. Since then, we’ve also watched Jurassic World: Rebirth and The Whisper Man. Heck, last night we even watched (well, re-watched) Signs because we couldn’t remember that it was terrible. All awful movies. Any suggestions on what we should watch next?
On Saturday, we stopped by the old Wellington Mall and hung out for a little bit. Craziest place. It’s like a 1970’s time capsule.
Where else can you encounter strange rainbow horses?
That’s all for now, my friends. Stay tuned for more soon!

#NewZealand #SecondHandClothing Stores Building Sustainable Fashion Communities
Editor
April 10th, 2026"The second hand clothing industry in New Zealand has transformed from humble charity shops into vibrant retail destinations that champion #sustainability while creating thriving community hubs. These businesses are proving that #PreLovedFashion can be both profitable and purposeful, building loyal customer bases while addressing environmental concerns about #FastFashion waste.
"From #Auckland’s trendy Ponsonby strips to #Wellington’s bohemian Cuba Street, second hand retailers are redefining what it means to shop consciously. These stores have become gathering places where fashion enthusiasts discover unique pieces, environmental advocates support circular economy principles, and budget-conscious shoppers find quality garments at accessible prices.
The Economic Success of #CircularFashion Retail
Second hand clothing stores across New Zealand are experiencing remarkable growth, with many reporting year-on-year increases in both foot traffic and sales. This success stems from their ability to offer genuine value while meeting growing consumer demand for sustainable shopping options.
Independent retailers like #TheWarehouseProject in #ChristchurchNZ and #RecycleBoutique in #AucklandNZ have built successful business models by curating high-quality #PreOwnedClothing. They source inventory through #consignment programmes, direct purchases from customers, and partnerships with fashion-conscious donors who want their unwanted items to find new homes rather than landfills.
These businesses generate revenue through multiple streams: direct sales of curated clothing, consignment commissions, and increasingly popular styling services. Many have expanded beyond basic retail to offer wardrobe consultations, personal shopping experiences, and even clothing swap events that build community engagement while driving sales.
Environmental Impact and Community Responsibility
The environmental benefits of second hand clothing retail extend far beyond individual transactions. According to Environment New Zealand, #TextileWaste represents a significant portion of household waste, making clothing reuse programmes essential for reducing landfill burden.
Local second hand stores divert thousands of garments from waste streams annually. Shops like #KindStore in #HamiltonNZ and #HuntersAndCollectors in #DunedinNZ process hundreds of clothing items weekly, extending product lifecycles and reducing demand for new textile production. This approach significantly decreases water usage, chemical processing, and carbon emissions associated with manufacturing new garments.
Beyond environmental benefits, these stores contribute meaningfully to their local communities. Many employ local staff, support charitable causes through donation programmes, and provide affordable clothing options for families facing financial constraints. Some stores dedicate specific days or sections to supporting local families in need, creating social safety nets within commercial frameworks."
