‘I’ve Never Seen This’: Massive Collapse in Support for #AIDataCenters Captured in New Poll

“If you can think of a cohort of Americans, there’s a good chance they wouldn’t welcome a #datacenter in their area.”

    Brad Reed, Aug 20, 2026

"A poll released on Thursday shows a massive collapse in support for building #ArtificialIntelligence #DataCenters among #Republican, #Democratic, and #IndependentVoters.

"The poll, which was conducted by Embold Research and published by Heatmap Pro, shows that 75% of Americans now oppose building AI data centers in their area, including 61% registering strong opposition."

"Just one year before, 42% of Americans said they opposed AI data centers in their areas, compared with 43% who expressed support."

  15. “Mop Up #Michigan”: #DonavanMcKinney on #DemocraticSocialism, #CorporateMoney & His Primary Upset

    #DemocracyNow, August 14, 2026

"One of the biggest upsets from Democratic primary elections this month was Donavan McKinney’s defeat of two-term Congressmember #ShriThanedar in the House primary to represent parts of Detroit and Wayne County in Michigan’s 13th District. McKinney, a #DemocraticSocialist state lawmaker, won on a platform to get #CorporateMoney out of politics, support #MedicareForAll and end military aid to Israel, among other issues. Like many other insurgent Democrats running for office, he has also proposed strict limits on artificial intelligence data centers. He took no corporate PAC money, and his campaign was supported by the Justice Democrats, Working Families Party, Democratic Socialists of America and major labor unions."

  16. Insurgent Candidate Victories Highlight Growing Movement Against #Corporate & #Elite Power: #JohnNichols

    #DemocracyNow, August 05, 2026

Excerpt: "AMY GOODMAN: And let’s go to #WilliamLawrence of the #SunriseMovement

    JOHN NICHOLS: Yeah.

AMY GOODMAN: — who we just mentioned, who won his primary, a co-founder of the Sunrise Movement, defeated two opponents to win the Democratic House primary in Michigan’s 7th District, focusing partly on what you just mentioned: #AIDatacenters . This is one of his ads.

' WILLIAM LAWRENCE: I’m #WillLawrence. And #TechBillionaires want to turn this whole field into a massive #datacenter that’ll jack up our energy bills and ruin our home values.

RANDY: They put that in, it’s going to plummet the values. It’s an existential threat.

WILLIAM LAWRENCE: I’m running for U.S. Congress because I’ve been afraid to stand up to corporate power. I’m backed by #BernieSanders, and I don’t take a dime from #CorporatePACs . '

ANJALI KAMAT: And in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, #DonavanMcKinney, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has a narrow lead over Congressman Shri Thanedar. This is a part of one of McKinney’s ads.

' DONAVAN McKINNEY: #ShriThanedar and the same #billionaires supporting #DonaldTrump are spending millions lying to you. They know that in Congress, Shri fights for them. I will fight for us — lower costs, higher wages, #MedicareForAll . '

ANJALI KAMAT: #AbbasAlawieh also won the Democratic primary for a seat in the Michigan state Senate. He was a co-founder of the #UncommittedMovement, which pushed for President Biden, and then Kamala Harris, to end U.S. support for Israel’s #WarOnGaza. This is Abbas speaking outside the DNC, the Democratic National Convention, in 2024, where the Uncommitted Movement pushed to include a #Palestinian voice at the convention.

'ABBAS ALAWIEH: Here is the scandal, my friends. Here is the scandal. The scandal is that there are forces within #DemocraticParty leadership who do not want us to talk about #Palestinian #HumanRights. But that’s not sustainable. This is a watershed moment. '

ANJALI KAMAT: John Nichols, can you talk about some of these other key races in Michigan and other states where progressives were challenging more establishment candidates, and just what you think is most important as a takeaway from yesterday’s primaries?

JOHN NICHOLS: I sure can. I’m delighted to do it, because the fact of the matter is that our national media too often focuses on the top-line races and misses the real dynamic, which you start to recognize is when you go down-ballot and you look at contests for U.S. House seats and for legislative seats.

And if you look in Michigan, what you’re seeing is, with Will Lawrence, an example of a real breakthrough win for a young candidate who ran a campaign on dynamic, fresh issues, including data centers. With #DonavanMcKinney, that’s still a close race. There are votes still to be counted there. But this is an incredible thing, because this is a candidate who didn’t have anywhere near the kind of money that his opponent did, and yet, with a real grassroots campaign on the ground there in Detroit and that region, ran very, very well.

And if we move beyond Michigan and you look around the country, what you’re going to see is that Tuesday night was a very good night for insurgent candidacies and for outsiders. In the #Missouri governor’s race, what you saw was kind of a remarkable result. #CindyHolscher, who’s a state senator out there and came from the outside — she wasn’t backed by the sitting governor, she wasn’t backed by a lot of Democratic Party leaders, and yet she won her primary for governor. And she did it by talking, again, about data centers and making that a very central part of her campaign. We’re starting to see a thread here. "

  17. Congressman Is Ousted by #DemocraticSocialist in #Michigan House Primary

Representative #ShriThanedar is among a wave of Democratic incumbents in Congress whom primary voters have sent packing in a surge of anti-incumbent fervor this cycle.

By Bayliss Wagner, Aug. 5, 2026

"Democratic primary voters ousted Representative Shri Thanedar of Michigan on Tuesday, according to The Associated Press, nominating a democratic socialist for a deep-blue district in the latest sign of the party’s hunger for new blood.

"Mr. Thanedar narrowly lost to #DonavanMcKinney, a state representative, in the 13th Congressional District, which includes parts of #Detroit and its suburbs. The race was called on Wednesday morning.

"Both candidates are progressive and support policies like funding universal health care and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement. But Mr. McKinney, 34, who is Black and grew up in Detroit, has contrasted his background with that of Mr. Thanedar, 71, an Indian immigrant who was elected to Congress in 2022. Mr. Thanedar’s victory that year left Detroit, a city that is roughly three-quarters Black, without a Black representative in Washington for the first time in decades.

"The primary also highlighted Democratic voters’ continued backlash against lawmakers who support Israel. Mr. McKinney has condemned the war in Gaza as a '#genocide' and campaigned with fellow #ProPalestinian Democrats, including Dr. #AbdulElSayed, the progressive candidate in Michigan’s marquee Senate race. Mr. Thanedar, in contrast, has consistently voted to fund aid for the Jewish state."

  18. #IndianCountry Cannot Afford to Sit Out #PeggyFlanagan’s #USSenate Race

by Levi Rickert June 1, 2026

Excerpt: "Flanagan has become one of the nation’s most prominent Native elected officials since becoming Minnesota’s lieutenant governor in 2019. Throughout her tenure, she has frequently highlighted the importance of tribal consultation, #IndigenousEducation, missing and murdered Indigenous relatives initiatives, and investments in #NativeCommunities."

  19. #PeggyFlanagan wins #DFL endorsement for U.S. Senate seat

The Saturday endorsement was less dramatic without Craig, but Flanagan’s win is meaningful: She will have access to DFL Party resources and be the subject of party advertising.

    Michelle Griffith, June 1, 2026 via #ICTNews

"#DemocraticFarmerLabor delegates endorsed #Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan for #USSenate on Saturday, solidifying her support among party activists going into a competitive primary election in August against U.S. Rep. Angie Craig.

"Flanagan said #Minnesotans are tired of #Democrats capitulating to #Republicans, and they deserve a fighter representing them in D.C.

" 'We can’t just be the lesser of two evils, and we will never ever win by being a pale shadow of our opponents,' Flanagan said after winning the endorsement. 'We’re building a movement that demands more from our leaders in Washington.' "

  20. #Maine - #WabanakiAlliance holds U.S. Senate candidate forum, participants discuss gaps in #IndigenousEducation

By Arianna Perdomo on April 20, 2026

"Democratic U.S. Senate candidates #DavidCostello and #GrahamPlatner outlined their positions on tribal sovereignty and education during a debate organized by the Wabanaki Alliance on April 16 on Indian Island in Old Town, which is home of the #PenobscotNation. The event was hosted by Penobscot Nation members and offered a chance to discuss non-partisan policy affecting #WabanakiNations and candidates’ plans to support those communities.

"Located less than 15 minutes from the #UniversityOfMaine, #IndianIsland sits along the #PenobscotRiver. This reservation serves as a cultural and historical center for the Penobscot people. Within the community there are buildings and museums that reflect ongoing preservation efforts of Wabanaki culture. According to the Wabanaki Alliance, the Penobscot Nation is one of the oldest continuous governments in the world and remains committed to protecting territories, culture and language as a federally recognized #SovereignNation.

"The debate was moderated by Dr. #DarrenRanco, chair of the #NativeAmerican programs at #UMaine. Notably, Democratic candidate Gov. #JanetMills and five-term Republican candidate Sen. #SusanCollins were extended invitations to participate, but were not in attendance. However, Costello and Platner offered insight on their approach to ongoing issues facing Wabanaki nations.

"Opening remarks were delivered by #MaulianBryant, executive director of the Wabanaki Alliance and Chief of the Penobscot Indian Nation, #KirkFrancis. Each candidate then gave a five minute opening introduction explaining why they are running.

"The first round of the debate consisted of eight questions surrounding topics of tribal sovereignty, environmental justice, regulation and the implementation of legislation that would help address these issues. Costello and Platner agreed that there needs to be a restructuring of the government and a new balance of power. Both candidates stated that they would support legislation that helped extend the power to engage the Wabanaki people in issues that are important to them."
