  1. while central alberta is having a fairly lacklustre saskatoon season, our raspberries are doing *great*. i haven't seen production this good in years.

this was about 5 seconds worth of picking.

  3. This #Edmonton district, better known as #Oliver, has been named as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in #Canada

Currently, there is quite a bit of construction in the area, because a #tram line is being built. Once finished, that will further improve the area.

  10. With the air quality improving to merely mediocre — and with the wind that cleared the smoke easing up before the headache it caused was irreversible — I was able to head out this evening for Taste of Edmonton in Churchill square.

    tasteofedm.ca/

I caught 2 music acts. Night Howl I've seen before & was keen to see again. Hot club Euro-folk fusion rhythms back dramatic vocals & cello. Tyler Shaw was a featured out-of-town act. Mostly generic-but-pleasant soft rock, but a few with decent rhythm (including the ones he introduced as new).

And I did taste some of the pricey nibbles, of course. The curry bowls from Spice Brothers were the closest you could get to a meal for 4 tickets (~$8), curry on rice plus salad, all very nice (although I'd prefer grilled paneer, not raw). FYI that "medium" spice on the butter sauce was what I would call mild.

My dessert was the matcha pudding with fresh watermelon from Flurrries Bingsoo Cafe. Nice flavour combo, not too sweet, reasonable serving for 2 tickets.

  13. i loved walking into my local comic shop (Comic King) today and asking, brazenly, if he had any Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis comics in stock. like walking into a gas station and asking for thirteen cartons of leaded gasoline.

"Errr........ I don't think... so? If I do, it'll be in the Indiana Jones box over there," pointing to a bargain bin area of the store.

20 years ago i found the first issue of Fate of Atlantis for a whopping $0.25 at a thrift shop. i couldn't believe that it even existed. i had grown up with the computer game by the same name, and the idea of a game getting a legit comic release (based on the game) was unheard of.

i kept my eyes open over the years, and i never did find any of the other issues in the four-issue set.

today was my lucky day. comic king did indeed have the rest of the series for a mere five bucks an issue.

  17. This Vancouver band is opening for Voivod/Acid King at their show in #yeg in September, describes themselves as "anti-fascist, anti-capitalist hypnotic heavy metal". I thought I didn't know them but when I looked them up in Bandcamp, turns out I own this album AND it was on my mid-year AOTY list for 2020 with this note: "There’s just something intriguing about this album from the first note. It sounds retro – not necessarily retro like trying to sound like an old heavy metal/rock/goth band but retro like as if it’s being played through an arcade game. Excited to hear more from this Vancouver band." Have I mentioned my memory sucks?

  19. Would love it if the new owners have plans to retain and restore the building. International modernism doesn't get nearly enough love.

"The purchaser was identified as Gather Co. Inc., which appears to be the Edmonton-based company that also owns a bunch of commercial properties across Edmonton, such as the Mercer Warehouse at 10359 104 St. NW and the Dazmo Building at 10567 111 St. NW."
