I was a little slow getting out for planned errands yesterday, but I was rewarded with gorgeous sunset skies on my walk home.

It was getting rather humid as the temperature dropped off & there were swarms of little gnats, but I managed to get inside before it got completely dark and the vampires (🦟) came out in full force.

(For #YEG folks: Photos are looking west across 111 St, north of Southgate mall. First shot is from the parking lot in between Tim's and Rexall. The panorama is a half hour later and a half km farther north, where the LRT dips into a tunnel, hidden between all those trees in the street median.)

I'd love to be able to share some of ours! We've had the wettest summer in recorded history this year. However, we have avoided the extreme heat and wildfire smoke that other areas have had, so I've been okay with the wet.
This is a very blurry phone shot, but as a birder, you may know what I was looking at. Terns? The loons kept diving out of sight, but I saw and heard them.

rusty patched bumble bee having a snooze under an echinacea petal this morning while its cousins collect nectar nearby

my wife and i visit the zoo at least once a week, just to walk and talk, and gazing at the flower beds has become a new pastime. the gardening team does an incredible job there, and the honey and bumble bees have been going nuts with the types of flowers they’ve chosen.
