  1. In August we average around 50mm of precipitation.
After 2 days Blatchford is almost halfway there, with 21.5mm.
(on the chart it looks like practically nothing next to the massive June & July)

  5. if you're in edmonton central hearing the sound of jets whistling and rumbling above your house, it's Air Canada flight 331 inbound from montreal. it's doing tight circuits over the central-northeast, currently on its fourth loop.

i can see that it attempted a landing 15 minutes ago, and then climbed back out - which suggests to me bad crosswinds on runway 02/20. (you can actually see the aircraft drive off the approach southeastwards if the telemetry is accurate - look at the green line near the tarmac)

that, or it's burning up excess fuel.

  7. Really not sure why I have rain barrels this year. It’s raining frequently enough I almost never have to water anything.

Did I mention it’s raining again.

  9. Also? I have to share this little bit of the guys from the Sudanese pavilion dancing in their reed skirts and horned headdresses. (Sudan also had amazing falafels with a yogurt dip and this fantastic tamarind drink over ice.) #yeg #Edmonton

  11. The Edmonton Heritage Festival is a celebration of the very best of our city’s spirit. In the midst of all the horrible hatemongering discourse out there, the festival reminds us of rich diversity of our community and all we accomplish together. (I was volunteering today as an entertainment judge. Here’s some of what I got to see!) #yeg #Edmonton #yegheritage

  17. ...and now the unprecedented part: Precipitation! #yegwx #yeg
July is usually our rainiest month, averaging 90mm.
In 2026 Blatchford almost tripled that, with 267.4mm.
The nearby stations were way below, with Stony Plain at 110.9mm, and the airport at 107.2mm.

  21. @evan I’d say in Edmonton it’s green onion cakes. While they don’t originate here, over the last fifty years they’ve become a standard.

  31. Storms in #yeg have damaged Elms and left their branches in piles. Absolutely perfect conditions for spreading Dutch Elm disease.

Meanwhile, the 10th case of DED has been discovered in the Calder neighbourhood.

If it's not contained now, we may not be able to contain it - ever.
