I'm sorry, what?
#yegcc administration admits they have no idea how many parking spaces the city is responsible for, yet they collect parking fees on them?
This is ridiculous. Janz is right, how many summer students is it going to take to figure out vehicle storage?
We've got the number of picnic tables and how many trees we have and how many bear fruit in Edmonton but we don't have an inventory of parking?

Why is it that remote city councillors aren't on video during meetings?
We had problems with this with the last council. How is this still an issue?
We have members of the public who have their cameras on.

Wîhkwêntôwin already works. The final neighbourhood renewal design doesn’t reflect that. You can help fix that. Read about how the current draft steps back on safety, year-round bike infrastructure, and people-first design — and how it can still be fixed. buff.ly/z3grOto #yegbike #yegcc

Three Days at City Hall, One Big Question: Who Can Move Safely in Edmonton? This week, #yegcc committees will make decisions that sound technical but have real-world impacts on safety, accessibility, and mobility, especially in winter. Here’s what’s happening: buff.ly/aXlmrRG #yegbike #yeg

What a perfect example of when densification works.
Being able to age in place and help solve the housing crisis and the loneliness crisis at the same time. It brings us back to the days when communities really were this local.

The source of the problem is that EPS has the enthusiastic support of the province, and the UCP have repeatedly waded in to discipline the ‘wayward’ woke Edmonton city council on policing matters.
#yegcc even tried to ‘defund’ the police (by not *increasing* the budget back in 2021, gasp!) and the province panicked and used their bully powers to force the increase anyway.

The City is taking feedback on their Climate Action Plan. They recently told council about how far behind they already have fallen in achieving their goals, and it's not hard to see why. Climate Change is an existential threat, and we need meaningful action now. #yegcc #yegbike buff.ly/b64HsKo

"Alberta Municipalities, as the voice of summer villages, villages, towns, cities, and specialized municipalities in which 85% of Albertans live, has conducted extensive research into the challenges facing communities across the province. Our analysis raises questions about how Alberta’s approach to property taxes might be reimagined to enable our communities to be sustainable as they grow."

$22.9 million bears questioning, and I expect Councillor Teng and Councillor Rutherford to ask these questions.
At the end of the day, these fire stations drive down home insurance costs for residents. They need to be built but at a cost overrun of $22.9 million? What's going on here?

#yegBike report: Cool but calm; inversion is still lingering and particulates along with it. 😷
Streets and paths mostly clear, a few icy patches but got by without studs another morning.
Avoid the path along the ski hill, though; snow machines are going full bore and creating accumulations. They are sweeping it a couple times a day, but it's hit and miss when.
Funicular is running, but elevator still down. Time to write #yegCC again.
Frazilpans are gloming.

It's not just 31 deaths, it's countless injuries that could have been deaths, it's countless near misses. Something's gotta give.

At Edmonton City Hall this afternoon for the Holodomor Ceremony - a combination of solemn religious service and defiant celebration of Ukrainian resilience. Runner-up for Edmonton mayor leaves municipal political party he co-founded | CTV Edmonton

I'm very happy that our city council has allocated funds towards a day shelter.
In my experience, the issue with Hope Mission and other current options in Edmonton is that they are judgmental and often impose their religious views on others.
Staffing issues and tolerance towards vulnerable individuals are, in my opinion, not at a satisfactory level. #abpoli #yegcc

he's got the Chain, he's got the middle seat, and for a brief moment in these tumultuous times, I look at what THE PEOPLE - and not $800,000 - made happen, and am happy.

We don't know alot about Calgary's election results or the people elected, but their new mayor made some amazing active transportation commitments that we hope our council will also consider! buff.ly/6IdvOBy #yegbike #yegcc

'Manufactured rage-baiting': Doorstep concerns contrast to online vitriol, say some returning incumbents | Edmonton Journal

Edmonton's municipal election shows that all of the folks complaining about bike lanes existing in Facebook comments sections are either nowhere near as numerous as they present themselves, or the sorts of folks who can't be bothered to vote. #yegcc

With all polls reporting, I'm finally breathing a sigh of relief that the psychopath lost.
Also, good news - the psychopath has no reason to visit my door for a seventh time.
-
While a 30% voter turnout is pathetic, I do find it funny that not only did the conservative-types completely fail to get people to the polls to vote out the current council on issues they thought they had in the bag (crime! disorder! taxes! bike lanes! infill!),...
...but also that the people who were motivated enough to go to the polls apparently like the current council enough to re-elect almost all of the incumbents (based on the results so far).

I know it’s a competition but no need to get emo. 😬
Anyways, election is tomorrow. Let cooler “heads” prevail.” -

I second those: Knack for Mayor and Paquette for Dene - Aaron has done a good job of representing us for 8 years and we need to keep his voice on council.
YES! PLEASE pay attention to school trustees people! It is a stated strategy of #UCP affiliated and #TakeBackAlberta types to run ideological candidates in school board races where people pay less attention.
In Ward B Linda Lindsay was VicePrincipal at my kids’ school… she was one of the good ones who did her job well, cared for the kids, and treated parents with respect. I fully trust her to be a good progressive trustee focussed where it needs to be: on kids and their well-being and education.
