Einmal im Jahr, am dritten Freitag im September, verwandeln sich weltweit zahlreiche Parkplätze in bunte und lebendige Orte der Begegnung. Dieses Event, bekannt als "PARK(ing) Day", findet in vielen Städten rund um den Globus statt und lädt dazu ein, die konventionelle Nutzung von Parkflächen infrage zu stellen und alternative Möglichkeiten aufzuzeigen.Ursprünglich entstand der PARK(ing) Day im Jahr 2005 in San Francisco, als die Künstlergruppe "Rebar" einen Parkplatz in ein temporäres öffentliches Parkareal umwandelte. Diese Aktion sollte darauf aufmerksam machen, wie viel Platz in unseren Städten von Autos und Asphalt eingenommen wird, während gleichzeitig der öffentliche Raum für Menschen begrenzt ist.
Seitdem hat sich der PARK(ing) Day zu einer internationalen Bewegung entwickelt. Am dritten Freitag im September nehmen Menschen aus verschiedenen Bereichen - von Aktivisten über Künstler bis hin zu Stadtplanern - teil, um kreative Ideen für die Neugestaltung von Parkplätzen zu präsentieren.
Der PARK(ing) Day hat mehrere wichtige Ziele. Er soll das Bewusstsein für die Notwendigkeit einer nachhaltigen Stadtentwicklung schärfen, indem er auf den Flächenverbrauch durch Autos aufmerksam macht. Gleichzeitig soll er die Diskussion über die Umgestaltung des öffentlichen Raums anregen und die Bedeutung von Grünflächen, Spielplätzen und Begegnungsorten in unseren Städten betonen.
Der VCD Nordost organisiert den PARK(ing) Day in Berlin und freut sich über Mitmachende.

"A review of project documents by #GreenpeaceEastAsia found that 14 new coal plants were approved from January to June with a total capacity of 10.3 gigawatts, down 80% from 50.4 gigawatts in the first half of last year.
"Authorities approved 90.7 gigawatts in 2022 and 106.4 gigawatts in 2023, a surge that raised alarm among climate experts. China leads the world in #solar and #wind power installations but the government has said that coal plants are still needed for periods of peak demand because wind and solar power are less reliable. While China's grid gives priority to greener sources of energy, experts worry that it won't be easy for China to wean itself off coal once the new capacity is built.
"'We may now be seeing a turning point,' #GaoYuhe, the project lead for #Greenpeace East Asia, said in a statement. 'One question remains here. Are Chinese provinces slowing down coal approvals because they’ve already approved so many coal projects ...?
