Sinlaku’s outer bands lash Marianas; conditions worsening tonight

According to observation sites, gusts of 54 MPH and 61 MPH were reported at Guam and Saipan, respectively, in the last hour. The maximum sustained winds near the center are 180 miles per hour, meaning STY #Sinlaku remains at a Category 5, and is moving west-northwest at 9 miles per hour.
The onset of tropical storm-force winds is expected to reach Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan now, if not, tonight. Typhoon-force winds are expected to start reaching Rota, Tinian, and Saipan Tuesday or Tuesday afternoon. Heavy rainfall with locally higher showers and isolated thunderstorms poses flash flooding and lightning threats to the entire region. Seas and surf are building to dangerous levels, with maximum wave heights of 21.52 feet at Ipan Buoy and 13.58 at Tanapag Buoy as of this issuance. Significant coastal inundation is expected for the entire region.

Still early days, but looks like #TropicalStorm #Ragasa will go through rapid intensification this weekend, and become a significant #Typhoon by Monday, packing winds of 120kts/138mph/222kph, and gusts up to 145kts/167mph/269kph.
It may enter the South China Sea through Luzon Strait, bringing gale force winds to southern #Taiwan and northern #Luzon, #Philippines. It threatens landfall near #HongKong, #Macau, and #Guangdong, #China.
But it's still 4–5 days out, with lots of uncertainty.

"A powerful typhoon has battered Vietnam's coastal provinces, with strong winds and rains felling trees and tearing the roofs off houses.
"Schools and airports were closed and almost 600,000 people across the country were ordered to leave their homes ahead of #TyphoonKajiki's arrival on Monday afternoon in the coastal province of #HaTinh.
"One evacuee in Vietnam's #NgheAn province told news agency Reuters he could see 'waves as tall as two metres, and water [#flooding] the roads around us', adding that it was 'terrifying'.
"It comes less than a year after the country was hit by Typhoon Yagi - its most powerful storm in 30 years - which killed 300 people in Vietnam alone."
