Kombiná is a journey through contemporary Dutch Caribbean architecture. The documentary follows architect Lyongo Juliana on a 25-year journey across the Dutch Caribbean, exploring what contemporary Caribbean architecture truly means today. Through projects on Curaçao, Bonaire, Saba, and St. Maarten, the film reveals how architecture emerges from a rich fusion of cultures, histories, climates, and social realities. Just like Caribbean music and language, architecture is shaped by many influences. In the film, Lyongo reflects—together with young designers, students, clients, and residents—on how architecture can respond to social challenges, reflect local identity, and contribute to more inclusive and meaningful living environments.

Set in 2093, Memory of Princess Mumbi follows young filmmaker Kuve as he travels to the fictional African kingdom of Umata to make a documentary about the aftermath of a devastating war that led to the rejection of modern technology and a return to ancient kingdoms.
There he meets Mumbi, an aspiring actress who challenges him to make his film without artificial intelligence, relying instead on his own eyes, hands and imagination. As Kuve becomes increasingly fascinated by Mumbi and the world around her, his documentary gradually transforms into something more intimate.
Blending science fiction, romance and mockumentary, Damien Hauser’s inventive film explores memory, filmmaking and our relationship with technology, asking what remains distinctly human in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
Shot in Kenya on a micro-budget, the film combines live action, green-screen techniques and AI-generated imagery. Hauser took on multiple roles, including writer, director, cinematographer, editor and composer, combining new digital tools with a handmade, independent approach to filmmaking.
Since premiering in the Giornate degli Autori section of the 2025 Venice Film Festival, Memory of Princess Mumbi has screened internationally at festivals including Toronto, BFI London, Zurich, Ghent and San Francisco. The film received the ZFF Critics Award at the Zurich Film Festival and the Golden Tulip for Best Film at the Istanbul Film Festival.

In this 45-minute interactive lecture, film critic and lecturer Hugo Emmerzael traces how 9/11 reshaped cinema and public consciousness. Looking at everything from Hollywood blockbusters and obscure world cinema to documentaries and conspiracy films, he explores how the attacks became a new form of American mythmaking — and how the political anxieties surrounding them continue to haunt cinema today.The 9/11 attacks unfolded at the dawn of a new media landscape, as consumer cameras, 24-hour news and online video transformed a historic tragedy into an unprecedented media spectacle. Its impact on cinema was immediate: Hollywood digitally erased the Twin Towers from films, while the industry turned towards a new era of war and terror, helping shape the cultural narrative around America’s “War on Terror.”
Drawing on film history, critical theory and the work of filmmakers, Hugo also looks beyond 9/11 itself to examine the political and cultural forces that were already shaping American cinema before the attacks.

British filmmaker Adam Curtis is one of the most admired thinkers of our time. Drawing on the rich BBC archive, he creates in-depth explorations of our current political and economic society.
In his 2016 essay film HyperNormalisation, Curtis examines how governments, financiers, and technological utopians have replaced the complexity of the real world with a much simpler fake world. He traces the origins of this technique of manipulation to the Soviet Union in the 1970s, where the system was slowly falling apart, but where it proved easier to pretend that everything was fine. Curtis describes how this technique of “hypernormalisation” played an essential role in the rise of Muammar Gaddafi, Bashar al-Assad, Vladimir Putin, and Donald Trump.
