  2. Kneecap (2024)

Melkweg, Saturday, November 14 at 09:30 PM GMT+1

Filmhuis Den Haag, Melkweg and Paard present ‘Getting the Band Back Together’ in November, a joint music film programme celebrating bands in all shapes, sizes and genres.

When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed ‘low life scum’ Naoise & Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in their native Irish language, Kneecap fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue. But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries & politicians trying to silence their defiant sound - whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies. In this fiercely original 'sex, drugs and hip-hop' biopic Kneecap play themselves, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures.

Melkweg often hosts different types of programmes at the same time, such as concerts, club nights and films. Please note that there may occasionally be some noise pollution from other programmes during the screening.

  3. Wey’i Steam present Bou Palu

Pakhuis de Zwijger, Monday, November 2 at 08:00 PM GMT+1

A sofa, a tree, and the sounds of the Caribbean.

Join us for a screening of Bou Palo Music, a series of acoustic, stripped-down, intimate live music performances. Recorded Bou Palo, under a tree, on a sofa. Why? Because that’s our culture.

Bou Palo is a platform for Dutch-Caribbean artists, promoting not only their talent but also their unique perspectives and message for the community. What started as a recording session for the season finale for the Bou Palo Radio Station, grew into something larger. Through the support of the Caribbean creative community, Bou Palo became a place for people to feel at home, even if only for a few hours.

In this programme Failo Loopstation & Freestyle Artist Ludwella Singer-songwriter Pos Chikito Collective Musical Group

    More about Wey’i Steam Productions

Wey’i Steam Productions started as a desire to have a creative outlet for Caribbean people. Inspired by NPR Tiny Desk, Dropout’s Game Changer, and Food Network, the founders of Wey’i Steam created a space where the Caribbean community can make something silly, fun, and sometimes also serious. So, why not a production house?

The name ‘Wey’i Steam’ is inspired by the Papiamento term for ‘pressure cooker’, a common kitchen pot in Caribbean households, used to cook ‘stoba’ or ‘stew’ under high amounts of pressure With a Wey’i Steam, you mix a bit of each culture prominent in the Caribbean, Indigenous, African, European, and many more, creating a blending pot of flavor and identity; from papaya stews to beef stews, from chicken stew to our personal favorite ‘Komkomber Stoba’. In Caribbean culture, cooking a stoba brings together family, neighbours and friends communal moment. That is what we create when we cook up a project: something for a gathering to enjoy.

  4. Morpheus

Felix Meritis, Friday, November 27 at 08:00 PM GMT+1

An intimate listening session into his dreamworld

Morpheus invites you into his dreamworld at Felix Meritis for an intimate listening session where harp, cello, keys and voice come together in an immersive soundscape. Experience his debut album, May I Come In?, performed in full for the first time ahead of its release, creating an intimate space for listening, away from the distractions of everyday life.
Morpheus creates a dreamlike world in which gentleness becomes a source of strength. The full album is performed in an intimate, acoustic setting, where Morpheus is joined by harpist Doriene Marselje, whose work explores contemporary music and electronics; pianist and composer Timothy Banchet, who has performed with artists including Benjamin Herman; and Joel Siepmann, principal cellist of the Metropole Orkest.

About the album May I Come In?

The album grew from a personal need for refuge. Morpheus: “I made May I Come In? out of a need to create a place of shelter in a world that often feels harsh and overwhelming. I noticed that I had lost the openness I once had. Every day, I confront myself with an overload of information, news, hatred, war, everything that divides us. The album is about what becomes visible again when you slow down: memories, grief, but also hope and the desire to reconnect. The title is both a question to another person and to myself: may I seek intimacy, and do I dare to truly enter my own inner world? With this album, I want to embrace sensitivity as a form of strength, and the courage it takes to feel deeply and express that openly.”

    Line-up

    MORPHEUS
Morpheus knows the power of music that pulls you in: songs that feel like a confession, wrapped in cinematic intimacy. Morpheus, the moniker of Martijn Verhagen, made a striking debut with his 2023 EP Morphosis, a raw collection of one-take recordings built around nothing more than piano and voice. Songwriting, to him, is a form of alchemy, turning introspection into something radiant and profound.

His 2024 follow-up, The Ascent, crafted in collaboration with renowned artist and producer Thomas Azier (known for his work with Stromae and Woodkid), expanded his sonic world while staying true to its emotional core. The releases were met with critical praise, earning him a cover story in L’Officiel Turkey and features in Trouw, 3voor12, and Behind the Blinds. His performances have taken him across Europe, sharing the stage with artists like Agnes Obel, Joep Beving, Thomas Azier, Ásgeir, Jay-Jay Johanson, and Kovacs. A sold out first tour in the Netherlands, Belgium and Turkey cemented his reputation as an artist who captivates in both sound and presence, with stops at ESNS 2024 and 2025, as well as festivals like Best Kept Secret.

His debut album is now finished and set to release early 2027. What comes next remains wrapped in mystery, but one thing is certain: it won’t let go easily.

  5. Bon biní na mi soño

Felix Meritis, Saturday, November 21 at 08:00 PM GMT+1

    Welcome to my dream

Step into the dream of a director of life. But what does it feel like to be inside a dream you have no control over? During this evening, Felix Meritis becomes the stage for Juny Martina’s dream world: a journey through music, film, performance and visual art. Moving between different worlds and social realities, Juny Martina explores the tensions between theory and lived experience, rap and other musical genres, Curaçao and the Netherlands, Papiamentu and Dutch, the individual and the collective.

The evening unfolds as a dream within a dream. Hosted by Zion Piggot, the audience is taken through different chapters of Martina’s imagined world, while live performances and visual works interrupt, challenges and reshapes the narrative.

Alongside Juny Martina’s musical performance, the programme also features work by visual artists Kain Toppenberg and Bruno Aguilar, a short film by Luis Mendoza, and performances and appearances by Zion Piggot, MC Theo, DJ Sjenks, Nixon Joseph, Nemesis, Amy Miyu, josh., MV and Denko. We end the night with an afterparty by BULGAR.

  6. Black Men Talk

Felix Meritis, Thursday, November 12 at 07:30 PM GMT+1

    Over kwetsbaarheid en opgroeien

    Illustratie door Black Childish
Stichting Black Men Talk en Felix Meritis presenteren: Black Men Talk.

    DEAN BOWEN

  8. ZaZoo: Teeth like Pearls

Splendor, Monday, November 23 at 08:00 PM GMT+1

David Dramm presents:Debut EP Release Concert

ZaZoo is an ensemble born in Amsterdam. Their music blends the improvisational qualities of jazz with the colors and interplay of classical music, as well as the grooves and textures from electronic music.

They experiment with a unique lineup, featuring Elsa Le Moigne (FR) on cello, Willy Becuwe (FR) on trombone, Tejas Ziegler (NL) on keyboard and Dane Paris (RSA) on drums.

Elsa leads and composes for the ensemble, however the musical roles are fluid: each player evolves as a soloist, bassist, accompanist, or section player throughout the various atmospheres of their music.

ZaZoo has been awarded the 2nd prize of Jazz in the Park Competition (RO) and was among the finalists of the Jonge Makers Prijs (NL).

Their debut EP Teeth Like Pearls reflects their musical journey: among the four pieces, some have evolved with them since day one, while others were created after spending time exploring their sound. The music aims for a sense of honesty and simplicity, expressing the intertwined feelings of tenderness and anger in old memories.

The sound of the project recalls of textures of Shai Maestro, Nate Smith-like motifs and colours of Lars Danielsson.

  9. MYSTERIES OF A COMMUNIST CAVE by Lytle Shaw

San Serriffe, Thursday, October 15 at 01:00 PM GMT+2

Gumshoe is a new series of architectural books that introduces an original approach to the writing of architectural history. Emulating the detective novel, the focus is on actual buildings rather than on speculative designs and theories. The style and form is fresh and scholarly but also easy and enjoyable to read. In Mysteries of a Communist Cave, the second book in the Gumshoe series, Lytle Shaw conducts an investigation of Oscar Niemeyer’s building for the French Communist Party’s (PCF) central committee in Paris.
Designed in 1965, just as party theorists began to rethink many bedrock assumptions about representation, Oscar Niemeyer’s PCF building is a microcosm of the shifting political and architectural landscape of the 1960s. It is also a literal Marxist structure that can thus help us concretely picture just exactly what Structuralist Marxism might have been. Shaw draws out the PCF’s language and context one element at a time and puts the elegant curtain-wall building with its cave-like assembly hall into revelatory dialogue with interlocutors in film, philosophy, anthropology, and politics.
Perhaps the ultimate mystery of the communist cave is that its owners have not more often and more powerfully presented their landmark building as the vivid source of imagery it could be for the kind of world the PCF might like to construct

  10. Quinn Oulton

Paradiso, Wednesday, February 24 at 07:30 PM GMT+1

Jazz with touches of r&b and pop

London-based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer Quinn Oulto is a true musical explorer. Drawing on a foundation deeply rooted in jazz, he effortlessly translates his understanding of complex musical concepts into contemporary R&B and alt-pop. With his debut album ‘Alexithymia’ and singles such as ‘100 Degrees’ (featuring Reuben James and Linden Jay), Quinn has now amassed over ten million streams. He has previously toured the UK and Europe, both as a headliner and as a support act for artists such as KNOWER, Elijah Fox and Jamie Cullum. In addition, Quinn works as a producer and session musician for other artists, including Priya Ragu, Eyelar and Amie Blu.

We live in a world where we are forced to take sides: conservative or liberal, art or commerce, success or failure. On his second album, ‘What I Meant To’ Say, Quinn Oulton rejects these dichotomies and instead explores the space in between. With a blend of alternative R&B and experimental pop, he seeks nuance and balance between light and dark, digital and analogue, raw emotion and refined production.

  11. Eosine

Paradiso, Saturday, February 27 at 07:30 PM GMT+1

    Post-punk quartet from Ghent

Eosine, from Liège and Ghent, are a quartet of young twenty-somethings who, as one of Europe’s most promising indie acts, are knocking on the door of an international breakthrough. They make music at the intersection of post-punk, indie rock, emo and neo-psych, with Elena Lacroix’s intoxicating voice as the unifying factor. At the end of 2024, the EP ‘Liminal’ was released, with the closing track and live favourite ‘Digitaline’ serving as its highlight and a perfect synthesis of what the band stands for: intensity, frenzied guitars and drums, shifts in tempo and dreamy vocal lines that beg you to turn up the volume.

Over the past year, Eosine have built up an impressive, almost sacred live reputation, with top-class performances at festivals including Dour, Lokerse Feesten and Into The Great Wide Open, as well as an extensive support tour in the Netherlands with the Australian garage rockers Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. In 2026, the band will channel that live energy into new music, heralding even more compelling shows and a debut album. The first single, ‘And Now It Shows’, offers a glimpse of what’s to come: dreamy vocals interspersed with raw emotion, all topped off with addictive post-punk, emo and a touch of glam drama.

  13. Automatic Noise Festival VII | grundeis + golden apes + pam risourié + silk + the pool of tears

Cinetol, Saturday, January 30 at 06:30 PM GMT+1

De zevende Amsterdamse editie van het International Shoegaze Festival vindt plaats op 30 januari 2027 in Cinetol, met Grundeis (Duitsland), Silk (Verenigd Koninkrijk), Golden Apes (Duitsland), Pam Risourié (Frankrijk) en The Pool Of Tears (Nederland).

    ‍

Op 18 september bracht Golden Apes hun langverwachte twaalfde studioalbum, The Sun Came Up Tremendously, uit via Icy Cold Records.

    ‍

    Silk

    ‍

    The Pool of Tears

    ‍
