  1. @anderspucknielsen.dk I believe we need to be more specific in our language. A #vocabulary of only a single word, "AI", does not allow for a sensible public #debate.

#AI can mean so many different techniques, products and uses. It's a bit like we're exchanging opinions about the olympic games but we're only
allowed to use the word "sports".

  2. #debate : a formal discussion

    - French: débat

  4. A quotation from Ta-Nehisi Coates

I don’t really worry about the young, whose excesses are confined to lecture halls and quadrangles, so much as I fear the old, whose tyrannies are legislative.

  6. Ah, yes, the thrilling saga of #C++ factions—because, clearly, #programming wasn't exciting enough without a Game of Thrones-style feud over #syntax. 🤦‍♂️ Forget bugs; let's just spend eternity debating which flavor of C++ is the least intolerable. 🍿✨ Meanwhile, the C standard committee meetings probably resemble a Monty Python skit more than a #tech summit. 🤡

What do you think? #Philosophy #Theology #Existence #Science #Debate

  9. The cosmological argument posits that everything that exists has a cause, leading to the conclusion that there must be an uncaused cause—often identified as God. This philosophical stance raises intriguing questions about existence and the universe. What do you think about the implications of this argument? #Philosophy #Existence #Cosmology #Theology #Debate

  13. A quotation from John Kennedy

But I think the American people expect more from us than cries of indignation and attack. The times are too grave, the challenge too urgent, and the stakes too high — to permit the customary passions of political debate. We are not here to curse the darkness, but to light the candle that can guide us through that darkness to a safe and sane future.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) American politician, author, journalist, US President (1961–63)
Speech (1960-07-15), “The New Frontier,” Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speech, Democratic National Convention, Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles

  15. The teleological argument suggests that the universe's complexity and order point to a purposeful designer. From the intricate balance of ecosystems to the precise laws of physics, can we truly dismiss the idea of a guiding intelligence? 16. The cosmological argument posits that everything that begins to exist has a cause, leading to the conclusion that the universe itself must have a cause outside of itself. This raises profound questions about existence and the nature of reality. What do you think? Can something come from nothing? #Philosophy #Cosmology #Existence #Debate #ScienceAndFaith

  19. Discussion and debate can only work if all parties agree to talk in GOOD FAITH.

To me, good faith generally means that each party commits to:

    1. The presumption of a shared, objective reality
    2. Stating one’s position (and motivation) honestly and clearly; and sincerely trying to appreciate the other’s position
    3. Not deliberately deploying lies, fallacies, or gish-gallop tactics to manipulate the other

In other words, good faith discussion is a *cooperative* activity, not an *adversarial* one.

The loudest people who “demand debate”do not meet the standard of Good Faith. It’s a waste of your time to debate them; you’ll never change their mind, but you will give them delicious content as they “own” you live on camera.

Although right-wing bad-faith debaters is almost a tradition at this point, I’ve also seen too many clips of progressives “owning” conservatives using dishonest, bad-faith tactics. This is not merely a right-wing problem.
