When talk of NAZA becomes about the number of Palestinians approved as “collateral damage” or if Rachel Szor and Yuval Abraham deserved a standing ovation, it becomes almost impossible to remember the point of the film in the first place: Israel’s systematic destruction of civilian life in Gaza.

It’s not about whether Israel’s culture minister is justified in calling to revoke the citizenship of Rachel and Yuval, it is that the Israeli army’s extremely lax rules of engagement led to immense destruction of innocent life across Gaza for more than two years – destruction that is ongoing.

It’s not about if the film should be tossed aside because its creators are Israeli, it is that entire Palestinian families were erased with the click of a button as cities were razed to the ground, food aid blocked, and the healthcare system was in shambles.

It’s that a war of annihilation was waged by our government and ordinary people paid – and continue to pay – the highest price.

Whether you want to watch the film or not, the fact is that more than 73,000 people were killed in a genocide in Gaza that continued because our government wanted to hold onto power no matter what.

That’s what we need to be talking about.

Raviv Drucker, Israel's most prominent “investigative journalist,”whose own acclaimed investigations run on Channel 13, did watch it, called it unbearable in #Haaretz, then interviewed Yuval Abraham on his own program.

Abraham asked a simple question: why the whole investigative establishment, programs and channels including The Source, Uvda, Kan 11, etc. went three years without one item on the collateral-damage (initials NAZA in Hebrew) policy killing innocent Palestinians.

Drucker said he hadn't invested enough in it. That’s a journalist whose reputation is built on exposing others.

Abraham said he's afraid to come back home.

BTW, the flip side of “collateral damage” is the deliberate damage, by the #IDF. I'm not holding my breath for a documentary about the Hannibal Directive anytime soon. How many Israelis were in fact killed by the #Hamas, the alleged mass sexual assaults and babies beheaded… they deserve investigating too. But Israeli media is part of the establishment, and it won't do its job.
