  1. Whyalla steelworks remains 'fiscal risk' in budget as SA waits for freight bypass funding
By Thomas Kelsall and Arj Ganesan

The federal government's ongoing financial support for the Whyalla steelworks remains a "fiscal risk" to the budget. Meanwhile, the South Australian government continues to hold out for more Commonwealth funding for a major road project.

  2. We finally got our new skim coat!
Pic one is almost a week ago; 9th Ave was shut down from 48(?) down to 42nd, at first I thought to force traffic out to 11th Ave (southbound) because of the bottleneck on 9th at 42nd (cuz of pipes going under 42nd at 8th, 9th, and 10th)!
But it was to toughen up our surface and prep the underlayer. Behold before and after pics.

  6. Dumped wildlife and
depressed and suicidal vets: excessive workloads and out-of-hours work, unsatisfactory remuneration, client abuse, and unclear regulations.

A "report found a lack of consistency with local governments and unclear legislation had led to a public perception of vets as "the default drop-off location" for injured wildlife and other found animals, despite the responsibility lying primarily with local and state governments."

"Six of the 32 recommendations related directly to challenges faced specifically by regional vets, including an "unreasonable level of responsibility" for the care of lost and unowned animals, such as injured wildlife...Wildlife is one of those things that we're all deeply passionate about, that we want to help our native wildlife … but it does come at a strain in the cost to the clinic that is, at this point, not covered at all."

"Vets say daily abuse and a lack of understanding from clients are one of the biggest factors causing them harm." >>

  9. Biodiversity under the wheels

Koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and other wildlife are forced to dwell in fragmented spaces having to cross many roads to go about their life. Mobility design is primarily for combustion machines to fly along their supply chains. The mobility needs of the un-motorised is not taken care of with the existing infrastructure.

"Tens of thousands of collisions with animals are recorded each year across Australia and the number appears to be rising. According to NRMA Insurance claims data, there was a 21% rise in animal collision claims from 2024-2025."

"Many large animals, including kangaroos, are most active at dusk and night, often moving to feed along roadside vegetation. Insurance data shows collisions are concentrated on regional and rural roads, where higher speeds, limited lighting and greater exposure to wildlife increase risk." >>

  23. I think the #GreenParty should spin its proposed #SpeedLimit policy slightly differently - and just say "we will reassess all speed limits on #UK #roads, selecting maximums of 50 to 60 mph where appropriate" this enables use of existing road signs and limits that drivers are familiar with, isn't wildly different from what local Councils and #NationalHighways / #TrafficScotland / #TransportForWales are doing anyway, gives #gammons a less obvious headline than unusual 55 mph limit and they don't have that long attention spans..

Incidentally I've now been driving 7 years and even in that relatively short time I've seen multiple rural roads across #Suffolk and #Essex change limits from 60 mph to 40-50 mph - all areas with Conservative Councils!
