  2. Citrus Club on Haight Street has closed for good. :(

I walked by earlier this evening to order some takeout and all the signage was gone and a large metal gate was lowered.

A notice of application for ownership change was posted including a license for “On sale beer & wine eating place”.

Looks like it was sold sometime in the past two weeks.

New name: Grind and Unwind https://grindunwindsf.com/

    #CitrusClubSF is no more.

I have been eating here and getting take out for a long time. Lots of memories with so many friends. Citrus Club was my favorite neighborhood noodle place. They had numerous vegan and vegetarian dishes. My favorite dishes were the BBQ tofu spring rolls, and marmalade coconut shrimp without the shrimp, substituting both fresh and fried tofu. From the menu: “sweet peas, onions & lemomngrass. Tossed in our coconut sauce w/Jade(spinach)noodles.”

When I walked by on the return home, the front door was open, the inside was lit but looked emptied, and there was music playing.

  7. That new noodle shop next to Cleo’s/ the Ninth Avenue Saloon has closed almost as soon as they opened. They took over from another place and poof new name new menu.
This is 9th just south of 46th. There was a couple behind me (you can see them in reflection) who had wanted to get lunch there, but were seeing the “Closed by health department“ sign for the first time. They were also selling “Paper Steak”.

  12. Midtown construction! This is 42nd at 9th. Shown is 42nd, but there are lanes closed on 9th also, from 43 to 41st.
Especially dangerous for bicyclists heading south on 9th, with no bike lane.

  13. APB FYI

I've just removed the LLM network which creates Alt texts, useless for blind people.

I've consulted several blind people IRL who told me the same thing.

Alt text generated by all LLM systems is useless

The system that we have here on the FediVerse which uses a ethical data set, puts the emphasis on useless details for the blind individual.

The blind person can immediately see if a photograph has been described by the photographer.

It is totally different from what an LLM can produce.

The emphasis are straight to the point

    • the description has a technical part
    • the description has a compositional part
    • the description has a color part
    • the description has a lighting part
    • the description has a short story

All of the above are important for the blind individual, however a large language model, doesn't know anything; it puts elaborate emphasis on things that are totally unnecessary absolutely unusable and makes the description messy to such a degree that all those Alt texts are simply ignored by the blind people.

    Background:

As a young child I was extremely traumatized by cousin LLoyd, who broke my right eye, by throwing a stone into my eye.

    Note

The only thing the only section that wasn't broken was the section that can never heal
I had to walk a whole year with a broken eye. I had not only lost depth of vision, I also lost a considerable amount of information which made my brains work much harder and made seeing the world much more difficult, putting extreme stress on my left eye.

From that perspective, I know from personal experience trauma and horror, what it means for a blind person to tell you that your LLM generated Slop, Alt text description, is totally useless.

I've checked the bot going through many iterations of many LLM back ends and came to the same conclusion as the blind people

ALT text generated by any LLM is useless

    Note
Cousin LLoyd was angry that I laughed at him & Paul for fighting with his big brother about a cooked egg, instead of sharing it. They were living in a hostile environment
I got my sight back thanks to a genious of an eye surgeon, who literally rebuilt my eye. I'm eternally grateful to him

  14. Why good faith is a technical requirement for #FOSS

If you’ve spent years in #FOSS, you’ve likely developed a strong allergy to vague political language. You care about licenses, reproducibility, governance models, and whether something actually runs. Good. That discipline is why free software exists at all. But here’s the uncomfortable question, what if the biggest blocker to the #openweb right now isn’t technical debt - but social debt? And what if “good faith” is not a moral nicety, but a core infrastructure requirement? The […]

  15. SFC also signs open letter to Keep Android Open

    Quote

Software Freedom Conservancy joins many other organizations in signing an open letter to Google asking that Android continue to allow people to install what they want on their phones. Recent policy changes within Google will restrict installation options by requiring developers to register their legal names, adding new gatekeeping that can arbitrarily deny app installation or delete existing apps from your phone. F-Droid has already written about the importance of this change. This invasion of privacy of developers is not just an overreach of Google's authority over Android, but also jeopardizes developer safety and restricts user freedom

    sfconservancy.org/news/2026/fe

The more organizations join the better!

Individuals should also sign the letter!

  16. Developer verification is an existential threat to free software distribution platforms like F-Droid as well as emergent commercial competitors to the Play Store. We are witnessing a groundswell of opposition to this attempt from both our user and developer communities, as well as the tech press and civil society groups, but public policymakers still need to be educated about the threat.

  17. Google lies about sideloading

Google’s message that “Sideloading is Not Going Away” is clear, concise, and false

It bears reminding that “sideload” is a made-up term. Putting software on your computer is simply called “installing”, regardless of whether that computer is in your pocket or on your desk

  18. 🏥 An abandoned hospital, which opened around 1900. Somewhere in Scotland.

It closed roughly 40 years ago. Several blocks have since been converted into flats, though much of the site remains derelict.

More recently, there have been several large fires, so I imagine it has changed a lot since I took my photos!
