Good work by #lorry driver - keeping occupants of small car that has broken down on "smart" #motorway safe and calling nines so #Police and #NationalHighways are aware - it took 5 mins on 999 call, and 13 further minutes for National Highways to arrive on scene, and #drivers are barely noticing stationary lorry (further ahead the matrix sign is showing "national speed limit", which suggests there has already been a restriction on previous signs so drivers are likely trying to accelerate to get back to 70mph (112 km/h)
These smart #motorways are not safe (thankfully there are no further ones being built)

This man was #driving way too fast on the #m1 #motorway in #Buckinghamshire - he clouted armco of the central reservation and busted front wheel/driveshaft - and carried on driving to a petrol station!
It seems he did not call 999 himself as he was committing a #DUI offence at the time - but was tracked down via #CCTV and brought before Crown #Court - he pleaded guilty and got 22 months in #jail due to the risk caused to other road users (he will likely serve about 8 months of that inside)

Whilst this is partly true - for instance Crossrail / Elizabeth line was debated when I was a teenager, and only completed when I was the other side of 50, this also happen with #motorways / highways - there is no #motorway in the whole of #Suffolk and any plans to expand the A14 highway or deal with the bottleneck of the Orwell Bridge in #Ipswich get regularly rejected - its not even "value for the taxpayer" but also a suprising consensus of rich #NIMBY types who live in the rural areas and #Green activists who are unsurprisingly opposed to more road building - they do have a point as I can remember #M25 being built and soon getting gridlocked - but Suffolk does need *something* to cope with peak time traffic to/from the busy port at #Felixstowe

One one level this is quite amusing, on another this shows the sheer level of lawlesness in late 1990s Britain (particularly on the roads)
A bunch of middle class bros running a fairly dubious car magazine (basically a "lad mag" with cars, often advocating poor #driving ) facilitated a foreigner to travel here in a vehicle that was likely not 100% road legal for UK, commit a serious traffic offence and there were only minor consequences for the driver (a fine + 10 year ban from entering the UK) and *none* for the Max Power editors.
Smokey Nagata *was* fairly repentant (they did at least pick a #motorway with barely any traffic on it) and feared the publicity would affect his business, but it had the opposite effect (he's still alive and tuning #cars today!)

At #SouthMimms #motorway #servicestation on #M25 just outside #London returning from a visit to relatives for my birthday weekend, having a quick snack and a drink if Pepsi before I deal with the miserable section between Potters Bar and Enfield which seems to be a permanent roadworks zone at the moment. Lots more #EV chargers are appearing (not just Tesla) but alas, it seems Welcome Break have abandoned #recycling bins as I'm sure they had these last time I was here..

Not sure what you would have seen on the video, but the #Litchfield #Canal project is fascinating. Back when a new #motorway was built round #Birmingham the builder was forced to provide an #aqueduct in anticipation of the #volunteers #raisingfunds to rebuild the canal. It sits in mid-air to this day. I drive under it regularly. Read more at:

I had a look at the area myself and TBH this seems like a load of middle class #NIMBY s - the #M25 #motorway service station in #Essex would take up a relatively small area of "green belt" space (compared to how much actually exists), and is genuinely useful for those driving long distances especially for those who have another few hours journey left along the # A12 / #A14
