Spotted this headstone at the old cemetery in Reykjavik last year. Love how the moss has become a decorative element on it.

There's an information board at the cemetery stating that they have some rare moss species growing there. I wish I could tell which ones.

I don't like to take photos of lichens when they are dry or in full sunlight. But in drizzling rain and light fog, as of today, they show their most beautiful colors:

Something for #TravelThursday from #Norway today. This was shot on a hiking route from the village of Flåm to the Brekkefossen waterfall and back last year. The hike itself was easy and flat for the most part but the ascent to the waterfall's base was brutal. For us, at least. Anyway, trees! And lichen! I think. Mastodon likes that stuff.

A #frozen #waterfall in #miniature on Mt. Philo in #Vermont from our hike this weekend. In warmer seasons, you might just see some damp rock here, but slow seepage or runoff over a frozen soil creates a frozen feature, emphasizing how water moves downslope and the greenery that thrives in dampness.
