  14. Watertown, Wisconsin school board voted 7-1 to remove Omar Thomas's "A Mother of a Revolution!" — an instrumental dedicated to Marsha P. Johnson — from the May 18 concert. Thirty-two students practiced all year. The Vice President called a piece with no lyrics indoctrination. Fascism rehearses in band rooms.

  15. A Band Concert Shouldn’t Be a Culture War; Yet The Watertown School Board Created One

The news from Watertown is truly disheartening. Watertown High School's wind symphony will not be allowed to play a musical piece with ties to LGBTQ history at an upcoming spring concert. The decision didn't come without fiery opposition from most in attendance at a School Board meeting Tuesday. Board members voted 7-1 to prohibit the wind symphony from playing "A Mother of a Revolution" by Omar Thomas, an instrumental piece inspired by Marsha Johnson, a trans woman credited with being […]

  16. #IanMcKellen says 'Star Wars' icon told him to avoid #LGBTQ politics

The actor and LGBTQ rights advocate revealed in a new interview that fellow actor #AlecGuinness once "pleaded" with him to avoid discussing the political issue.

"Ian McKellen doesn't need anyone's permission to stand on his soapbox.
In an interview with The Guardian published May 7, the Oscar-nominated actor revealed that he was allegedly discouraged by fellow actor Alec Guinness from speaking out on #LGBTQRights.

"Guinness, who died in 2000, was an acclaimed British actor, best known among sci-fi fans for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original 'Star Wars' trilogy.
While discussing the 'worst piece of advice' he'd ever been given, McKellen recalled an alleged meeting he had with Guinness around the late '80s.

" 'He took me for an Italian lunch in Pimlico, where we chatted about this and that until he brought up the real reason for his invitation,' McKellen, 86, told the British outlet. 'He had heard about my work to establish #Stonewall – a lobby group to present to the government and the world at large the case for treating U.K. lesbians and gays equally under the law with the rest of the population.

" 'He thought it somewhat unseemly for an actor to dabble in public or political affairs and advised me, sort of pleaded with me, to withdraw. Advice from an older generation, which I didn't follow.' "

  21. Courage in C Major Needed At Watertown High School, Band Students Must Perform “A Mother Of A Revolution”

Something is chilling about learning that a Wisconsin school board is debating whether a piece of music, without lyrics, should be publicly performed. Students have spent months practicing the piece, which was composed as a dedication to a transgender activist and a prime mover of the Stonewall uprising. I read about this latest bizarre culture war story on my iPad and got up to turn my computer on. This story begs to be addressed. Watertown High School band students have spent months […]

  22. The word “#Stonewall” comes from a six-night uprising at a gay bar on Christopher Street in New York City, starting in the early hours of June 28, 1969. When the British charity was founded in May 1989 by Ian McKellen, Lisa Power, Michael Cashman, and others, the founders deliberately chose that name. They were saying: We come from this. We owe it.

I like following the stone walls through our property and beyond. I have no idea who built them and why. In my rural town (est. 40 sq mi) there are hundreds of miles of old stone walls. The amount of labor involved is just incredible! On my southern boarder wall, an interesting transition happens. The wall stops at a ledge then is continued at the top of the ledge ( see pics).
