To give you a quick sense of where my heart is: I'm a progressive, and a pretty straightforward guy. Even though I'm a straight male who identifies with my birth gender, I'm a fierce supporter of women's rights, LGBTQ+, and trans rights. At the end of the day, you don't need to be part of a specific group to have empathy and sympathy for others.
Geopolitically, I believe in an independent and free Taiwan, as well as an independent and free Israel and Palestine.
More than anything else, I'm just a humanist who wants everyone to live a good life filled with peace, love, and happiness — with equal rights and fair, equal, and free justice for all.

"The $100m-buck gamble: Should an extinct SA antelope roam the Cape again?
Texas biotechnology company Colossal Biosciences wants to bring back the bluebuck from extinction. The project’s significance may extend far beyond reviving the long-lost species, said to have sported a blue-grey hide.
The species disappeared from the Cape about two centuries ago.
If Colossal Biosciences succeeds, South Africa could become a major test for a radically different vision for conservation – one built around reproductive breakthroughs and venture capital.
Now Colossal, the company that claims to have resurrected the Americas’ dire wolf, says it is working to recreate the extinct South African bluebuck by editing the genome of a close living relative. First, the company is seeking to implant edited embryos into roan surrogates. If all goes to plan, the first birth could be 'a couple of years away', according to Matt James, Colossal’s chief animal officer and executive director of the company’s conservation foundation.
'I think we’re very close. We’re in the editing phase. We’ve unlocked a lot of the reproductive science. We still have a few hurdles to climb,' he says.
The most revealing part of James’ interview with Daily Maverick may be that the bluebuck and ambassador species like it do not necessarily represent the company’s ultimate objective.
'We’re interested in investing this amount of money not because of the resulting animal alone,' James says. 'We’re also interested in rapid development of tech that helps bring that moonshot to life. That tech then is directly applicable to species on the brink of extinction today.'
With this, James reframes Colossal’s pitch.
Rather than simply trying to recreate an extinct animal, Colossal says 'de-extinction' is a platform for new conservation technologies – an approach the company contends could eventually help threatened species teetering on the edge of the extinction abyss."

In May 2026, National Parks confirmed the presence of more than 50 jaguars in the wild in this region, marking a milestone in the restoration of this species.
The Renaissance of the Jaguar in Iberá
The return of the jaguars makes Iberá a global reference for conservation. This pioneering effort in the reintroduction of jaguars shows the positive impact of well-executed conservation projects. Nonetheless, the challenge continues with the need to preserve genetic diversity and ensure peaceful coexistence with human communities.

In January 2025, there were at least 35 jaguars in the region; a year later, the figure exceeds 50 thanks to births in the natural environment and planned reintroductions. Although statistics may vary, the upward trend is clear, consolidating Iberá as a fertile refuge for this species.
The recovery project began in 2021 with the release of Mariua and her cubs in the Gran Parque Iberá. This effort started in 2012 with the creation of the Jaguar Reintroduction Center, where the animals learned to hunt and adapt with minimal human intervention.
The sustainability of the project is reinforced with births in the wild, as confirmed by the litter of three cubs reported in May 2024. This phenomenon marks the transition towards a self-sufficient population, where young jaguars achieve independence and natural dispersion.
The jaguar, being at the top of the food chain, plays a crucial role in the ecological balance of Iberá, influencing the dynamics of its prey and vegetation. The careful reintroduction of predators is seen by the United Nations Environment Programme as a means to restore degraded ecosystems.
The effort is not limited to jaguars. Iberá also hosts conservation programs for species like the giant otter and the red macaw, seeking to restore lost ecological interactions."

"Pine marten kits spotted 100 years after extinction
The endangered pine marten has been brought back to the South West of England after going extinct 100 years ago.
New video footage from the Two Moors Pine Marten Project shows a female pine marten with four of her kits exploring woodland in Exmoor.
The conservation project aims to re-establish a sustainable breeding population of members of the weasel family to the South West following their extinction more than 100 years ago.
The kits can be seen scampering through Exmoor undergrowth and climbing a trail camera which has been specially baited with peanut butter and fish oil.
The video of the pine marten's offspring is proof that the reintroduction of 19 pine martens to Exmoor in 2025 was successful."

"Whooping cranes make comeback in Louisiana with record number of chicks
• A record 10 whooping crane chicks fledged in Louisiana this spring, bringing the state's population to 82.
• The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' reintroduction project is the largest of its kind in the U.S.
Whooping crane numbers in North America once dropped to just 15 birds in 1941 but are slowly recovering.
• The first wild-hatched chick in Louisiana in over 75 years was born in 2016 as part of the project.
Whooping cranes are making a comeback in Louisiana, where a record 10 chicks fledged this spring at the White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area in Vermilion Parish as part of the state's experimental reintroduction project that began in 2011.
Those chicks increase the Louisiana non-migratory population to 82, of which 32 were wild hatched in the state.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' reintroduction program is the largest such project in the U.S.
'As the population gets older, we see some of the breeding pairs have more success probably because of experience,' said agency biologist Sara Zimorski, who oversees the whooping crane project. 'We have some pairs that are rock solid. They’re consistently successful; it’s like they have figured it out. One has fledged four chicks in the past four years.
Having 18 of the 20 pairs that nested hatch chicks is the highest percentage we’ve ever had to do that. For that many to successfully incubate and hatch at least one chick was wonderful to see. And of course even for the pairs who didn’t succeed in fledging their chicks it was still good experience for them and a step in the right direction.’"

There are songs about fleeting marketplace romances (Sunflowers), and going in search of your life’s purpose (Desert Rose). There are other songs about taking the easy road and waking up late (Mid-Morning Guy) and the housing crisis in Australia (Yoshino Removals). There are even more songs — about bad haircuts (West Coast Haircut) and the disappearance of the bees (Honey Bee). The title track follows a pair of cufflinks given to me as a young man and their trajectory through the following decades. All the lyrics are up there so you can read along while listening if that’s your preference.
The music is roughly what I’d call indie-pop including jangly guitars numbers and piano ballads but there are forays into country twang, latin percussion, and doof.
