  1. @quixoticgeek I'm on board with the Northern Hemisphere being a lost cause.

Time for #permaculture in The Global South.

  2. Again a little visitor joined us on the farm today.

Seeing a frog among our crops is a beautiful reminder that a healthy farm is more than just plants it is an ecosystem. Frogs help control insects and are part of the biodiversity we want to protect.

#Nature is always telling us something if we take the time to notice.

Wow, I worked right near that place for years, and never went in, darn!

Also, do you know if any species of avocado can survive the winter in France?
    -10 degrees C?

But as to where to post that sort of thing on the Fediverse, it’s all about using the right hashtags.

  4. Student loan rates on the rise.

Abusive federal oversight weighs even more on struggling locales. Support local community colleges, and research co-ops in your area, that integrate #permaculture.

  5. @MerlinOfMerlinsforge Here's another video on the subject:

"How Hawaiian Rebels are Restoring an Ancient Food Paradise"

    > #Permaculture instructor Andrew Millison visits an epic restoration of the Hawaiian Ahupua'a, the traditional watershed-scale food system of the Hawaiian people.

  6. #ducks in the water!

#Michigan is on one of the largest waterfowl flyways in the world! The #GreatLakes bay contains the largest freshwater wetland in the United States

Thats why we chose our ducks, cold hardy and ready for water. 💧 Our #homestead is raising waterfowl chosen for its local resilience. We spend less #energy on heating, #water for gardening ((((just south of the #land of lakes ))))) #permaculture #RegenAg #solarpunk #ducklings #summer #bigwater

  7. "Discovering an Oasis in the American Desert" by Craig Mackintosh, feat. Geoff Lawton and Brad Lancaster, 2014

    > ...built by men with carts and horses during the Roosevelt years in the 1930s.

    > The soil was springy and spongy when you walked on it. Like an uncompacted garden bed it was full of mulch captured by rain water. Eighty years of humus was deposited here during flash floods, without any help from mankind.

  8. A 750 square meter farm has been built on top of Israel's oldest mall and it uses this space to grow food year-round, produce 17 different kinds of vegetables, host educational classes, and more! Way to go Israel!

#Holzer #permaculture #climate

  10. Food forest groundcover: A food forest, like the name implies, is a forest of food. Once established, they maintain themselves, they're created in layers, and this open source guide covers plants ideal for the groundcover layer. Know other great food forest resources or stories? Share them in the comments.

  11. #Degrowth means the reduction of the destructive industrial systems, yes, but it also means the regrowth of local constructive resilient ecological systems. Bill Mollison (cofounder of #Permaculture) said, "If 10% of the people shifted from consumption to [ecological] production that would save the world."

  12. Okay, seriously though, let's talk about humus (HOO-mes) the soil stuff, not hummus (HUM-mus) the delicious chickpea (garbanzo bean) dip.

SolarPunk begins at the microbial level. Humus is how life turns lifeless mineral matter into the organic flesh of the living Earth. Those pretty graphics of green cities? That's what the microbes are doing in the soil, turning it from barren and crappy to comfortable and lush.

  13. Frantically trying to plant the ugliest soil you have ever seen with nothing but cover crops, radishes, a shovel, and duck litter .--.

Future alley crop , currently a sandy pit ✨️

I cant even get the shovel past an inch , 😪 are there short season beans I can put here? How do I make sure the radish make it?

  14. You know about humus, right?

I was watching this TED talk about it and the speaker opens with this bit of anecdote about folks trying to save the world and they don't know about humus.

You gotta know about humus. To a first approximation making humus is your main job. If you're not making humus you're part of the problem kiddo.

Yes! Diversity to meet complexity is necessity! Solarpunk opens up possibility instead of closing opportunities

We can divest our agriculture practices from the global oil market by restoring ecosystem services. Hope is the eyeglass to progress, without it we are blinded to pathways out
