#BelfastME - Kindling Collective Rest and Recharge Fall

    October 10, 2026

    "About this trip:

Rest and Recharge is an event for folks who take part in #CommunityCare work who are looking for rest and connection.

KC is committed to creating programming that is responsive to our community. We’ve heard from folks who are deep in local community care work that they are exhausted, overwhelmed and struggle to find time to rest. In collaboration with #MCHT , we put together two day events inviting organizers to be with the land and seek rest/play. Join us for the second of these events on October 10th in the Belfast area (specific location provided after registration). #DanielleArroyo and #DaeneKugel will hold this space and offer a guided #NatureWalk and optional #crafting projects. Music and vibes courtesy of Kafari. Lunch will be provided.

Who is a community care worker?

Someone who spends time doing work (for pay or not) that supports the people in our community who need it most. This includes but is not limited to:
    - #MutualAid / food delivery / #cooking & shopping for folks / #farming & #FoodSovereignty
    - #StreetMedicine
    - #Doula / #DeathDoula / #GriefWorker
    - #Policy / #advocacy work / #LegalSupport
    #CommunityDefense / #documenting law enforcement
    - #SocialWork / #CaseManagement
    - Community based health care
    - #Elders / #KnowledgeHolders / #storytellers "

This event is for Queer / BIPOC participants only!

"Queer events are designed as an affinity spaces for queer and trans people of all racial identities. If you think you might be queer or trans, you are queer enough. While we love our allies and advocates, if you’re not queer, don’t come to these events.

BIPOC events are for Black, Indigenous, and people of color of all genders and sexualities. If you’re not BIPOC, do not attend these events!"

  8. So, many years ago, my colleagues at the #WildernessSchool had permission to pick blueberries at the #BlueberryBarrens at #CrystalSpringFarms, and also foraged in the surrounding areas. It's a lovely place and I'm so glad that it's being preserved -- despite all the development in #Maine!

Summer Four Season Walk at Crystal Spring Farm

    Tuesday, July 21, 2026
    3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

    Crystal Spring Farm
    277 Pleasant Hill Road
    #BrunswickME, 04011 United States

    Pre-registration required. Suggested donation $5-$20.

"Come walk the trails at Crystal Spring Farm in Brunswick as we get to know #NativePlants in summer.

Four season walks are a popular series and a staff favorite: each year, we pick a new location, and then take the same walk, once per season. We will all engage in observing and asking questions of our surroundings, and identify the varied plants, shrubs, trees, ferns, and wildlife along the trail. Each season brings something new and spectacular to look at. The goal of these walks is to foster relationships with place through relationships with plants, and encourage further #stewardship of our community spaces. Crystal Spring is home to a lovely blueberry barren #ecosystem that we look forward to visiting together. Thank you to #BrunswickTopshamLandTrust for hosting us!"

  11. Free Day at #MaineStateParks for #LibraryCard Holders on April 25, 2026

    April 14, 2026

Augusta, Maine - "April 19-25, 2026 is #NationalLibraryWeek, and thanks to a proclamation by Governor #JanetMills, it is also officially #MaineLibraryMonth. To mark the occasion, the #MaineStateLibrary and Maine State Parks are partnering to offer a special day of free admission to participating state parks.

"On Saturday, April 25, simply show your Maine library card at the entrance of any participating Maine state park and enjoy a day outdoors at no cost.

" 'This collaboration is a perfect way to highlight the value of libraries and the exceptional outdoor values of Maine's State Parks,' said Andy Cutko, #MaineDACF Bureau of Parks and Lands Director. 'Libraries open your mind to the world of literature, and on April 25, your library card is also a ticket to the #outdoors.'

" 'Maine State Library is delighted to partner with Maine State Parks for Maine Library Month,' said Lori Stockman, Maine State Librarian. 'With spring upon us, providing free admission to many Maine State Parks on April 25th is a natural extension of the types of services and resources that our public libraries provide regularly to their communities.'

"Visitors are encouraged to bring a favorite book, find a shady spot, and enjoy some quiet reading time surrounded by Maines natural beauty. Whether it's a novel at #CrescentBeachStatePark, poetry under a pine at #LamoineStatePark, or a field guide on a trail atop #BradburyMountainStatePark, the day is a celebration of learning, relaxation, and connection.

"Don't have a library card yet? Stop by your local library to sign up - its free, and it opens the door to countless opportunities, from books and digital resources to programs and events.

Find your nearest library. To explore Maine State Parks, including maps and locations, visit parksandlands.com.

"Free admission applies to day-use at Maine's Maine State Parks and Historic Sites on Saturday, April 25, from 9:00 a.m. until closing.

  18. #Midcoast #Maine communities participate in #NoKings Day of Peaceful Action

Several events are scheduled around Maine, including in #BathME, #BrunswickME, #FreeportME, #RocklandME and #WiscassetME.

    October 14, 2025

"No Kings, a peaceful protest movement against the Trump administration, has recently announced there are now over 2,500 community events scheduled for its Day of Peaceful Action on Saturday, Oct. 18. These events are organized by average Americans across personal, political and geographic demographics in all 50 states.

"There are five event locations in the Midcoast: the corner of Main and School streets in Freeport, 8-11 a.m.; Wiscasset Bridge on Route 1, 10-11 a.m.; 191 Maine St., Brunswick, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Rockland’s Chapman Park, 294 Main St., noon to 1 p.m.; and Sagadahoc Bridge in Bath, 1-2 p.m. Go to nokings.org/#map to see all No Kings Day of Peaceful Action events.

"Building on the momentum of the June 14 day of action, which drew more than 5 million people across all 50 states, the #October18 mobilization is the next chapter in the No Kings movement. According to a prepared release, the aim of the Day of Peaceful Action is to send a unified message: We are a nation of equals, and our country will not be ruled by fear or force.

    "Groups organizing the No Kings peaceful protests across the country include #ACLU, #AmericanFederationOfTeachers, #CommonDefense, #50501Movement, #HumanRightsCampaign, #Indivisible, #LeagueOfConservationVoters, #MoveOn, #NationalNursesUnited, #PublicCitizen, #SEIU and #UnitedWeDream, among others.

"All No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety, the prepared release said. Organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide."

  19. [Thread] The tickets for this event aren't cheap, but I hope they find some patrons to support the cause!

"The #WabanakiAlliance will host our third annual #Nihkaniyane: Let’s Go Forward Together event, a celebration of our friendships and alliances, from 5-7:30 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the Smith Center for Education and Research, Wolfe’s Neck Center, Freeport. Honorees will include John Banks and Brianne Lolar, both of the Penobscot Nation, and Emma Soctomah, of the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Motahkomikuk.

"The Wabanaki Alliance formed in 2020 when the #HoultonBand of #Maliseet Indians, #MikmaqNation, #PassamaquoddyTribe, and #PenobscotNation joined together to work to improve upon the 1980 Maine Indian Claims #SettlementAct (#MISCA) and educate the public on tribal histories and communities.

"Over the past five years, we have achieved significant milestones, demonstrating the power of persistent advocacy and strong partnerships. We have seen improved relations with the state government, fostering a more collaborative environment for dialogue and progress. Our bipartisan efforts have been crucial in building bridges across political divides, ensuring that the critical issues facing the Wabanaki Nations resonate with a broad spectrum of policymakers. These successes include advancing key legislation that strengthens tribal jurisdiction and increasing public understanding of Wabanaki inherent rights. We have laid essential groundwork, moving closer to true self-determination.

"This gathering is where we will celebrate our progress, discuss future strategies, and strengthen our collective voice. Donations will allow us to expand our advocacy efforts in Augusta and Washington D.C., and invest in community-led initiatives that focus on economic development, health, education, and cultural preservation within the Nations. The support will also help us reach wider audiences to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Wabanaki history, rights, and contributions, particularly through our upcoming community outreach initiatives."

  20. If you're in #Maine, SAVE THE DATE!

Free Day at #MaineStateParks (Note, not all parks - see * below) for #LibraryCard Holders on September 20

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    September 4, 2025

Augusta, Maine – "September is #NationalLibraryCardSignUpMonth, and thanks to a proclamation by Governor #JanetMills, it is also officially #MaineLibraryCardSignUpMonth. To mark the occasion, the #MaineStateLibrary and Maine State Parks are partnering to offer a special day of free admission to participating state parks.

"On Saturday, September 20, simply show your Maine library card at the entrance of any participating Maine state park and enjoy a day outdoors at no cost.

" 'This collaboration is a perfect way to highlight the value of libraries and the exceptional outdoor values of Maine’s State Parks,' said Andy Cutko, #DACF Bureau of Parks and Lands Director. 'Libraries open your mind to the world of literature, and on September 20, your library card is also a ticket to the outdoors.'

" 'Maine State Library is delighted to partner with Maine State Parks for Library Card Sign-Up Month,' said #LoriFisher, Maine State Librarian. 'With the fall season upon us, providing free admission to many Maine State Parks on September 20th is a natural extension of the types of services and resources that our public libraries provide regularly to their communities.'

"Visitors are encouraged to bring a favorite #book, find a shady spot, and enjoy some quiet #ReadingTime surrounded by Maine’s natural beauty. Whether it’s a novel at #CrescentBeachStatePark [my favorite beach], #poetry under a pine at #LamoineStatePark, or a field guide on a trail atop #BradburyMountainStatePark [another favorite], the day is a celebration of learning, relaxation, and connection.

"Don’t have a library card yet? Stop by your local library to sign up — it’s free, and it opens the door to countless opportunities, from books and digital resources to programs and events.

"To find your nearest library, go to www.maine.gov/msl/libs/directories/public.shtml.

"To explore Maine State Parks, including maps and locations, visit parksandlands.com.

"Free admission applies to day-use at Maine’s Maine State Parks and #HistoricSites on Saturday, September 20, from 9:00 a.m. until closing."

    * The free admission does not apply to:
