Reflections on Wilton Terrace

A glass fronted building on Wilton Terrace is reflected in the waters of the canal in Dublin earlier this month. I thought it might be the Canadian Embassy, but Google Maps shows it’s a slightly different building.

Bare trees in thick moss on our way to the hill. The area is Derroura woods, from Irish "Doire Abhra". Doire = woods, but I'm not sure about "abhra" – it's a form of "fabhra", which means eyelash or eyebrow. But "fabhra cnoic" = brow of hill, so maybe it refers to the crest of land overlooking the lake

This morning, I was faced with snow drifts up to my waist outside the front door, thanks to the high winds and snow in the night. I spent a good hour digging my way to the garage so my wife could get her car out and get to work. Thankfully, I was able to work from home.

This shot is from about an hour after I finished the first dig. I completed the second dig in the afternoon, and am very relieved there is very little snow in the forecast for the weekend.

Don’t get me wrong. I love snow. I love living in a place where there is real winter — but I think I wouldn’t mind some signs of spring right about now…

Admiring this mid-city tree, I recalled the time that Frederiksberg Council made it policy that every home in the council's area 'must have view of at least 1 tree'. Such a real, realistic, simple, nice local action.
