  1. Feeding birds in the UK?

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has issued new guidance to avoid spreading disease.

✋ Simply put, pause feeding any seeds or peanuts between 1 May and 31 October.

🌻 Also consider bird-friendly planting to provide natural food sources, such as sunflowers, teasels, and ivy.

🚨 The cause of an outbreak of a mysterious and deadly disease in finches in British gardens in 2005 has finally been determined by conservationists.

  8. The Swan Whisperer of Galway

If you’ve ever wandered down to the Claddagh in Galway, you’ll know the swans are less “graceful wild creatures” and more “assertive locals who know exactly when the bread’s coming out.”

That’s what happened on this day in 2005 when we visited and saw a young woman feeding those swans. Other birds wanted crumbs of bread too! Now we know that bread is not an ideal food for birds. Green vegetables are better for them.

  9. VICTORY!! A magpie finally landed on my window to eat bird feed!! I tried leaving a bird feeder attached to the window for weeks, but nothing came, and then it was windy, so I removed the feeder, so I started putting their food on the ledge of the window outside.
And AT LAST, my first bird today.

I also heard a bird this morning, but I didn't see it and I need to check if its sound matches a magpie.
