  1. Hummingbird sighting in the #garden!! They're so small & move so fast that whenever one makes a rare appearance I first think it's a bumblebee (lovely creatures themselves -- you can even pet them). Almost certainly ruby-throated. 2nd time I've had a visit from these tiny marvels. #birdwatching #wildlife

  2. Blue Jay After the Molt

Blue jays during molting season crack me up. Here’s one with its head feathers just starting to come back—still a little muted—but the bird is as sassy as ever. I’ve come to think that their screams around the backyard are basically announcements to the rest of the crew that the buffet is open.

If you're enchanted by images of blue jays and other captivating corvids, dive into my photo gallery for a visual treat! Take a peek:

  3. Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge transforms into a migration sanctuary every autumn as tens of thousands of sandhill cranes, snow geese, and Ross's geese arrive to overwinter on the Rio Grande. Mornings and evenings are the best time to go, as thousands of birds lift off (or arrive) in groups, choreographed mostly by size, with groups of ducks, geese, and cranes announcing their imminent departure (or arrival), filling the desert air with a cacophony of calls.
