They grow up so fast! This photo is from July 5. I kept thinking I would try to get a somewhat better shot, but I never got one.
And now the Purple Martin families have moved on. They left a couple of days ago, and I really miss their noisy songs and calls.

For #Wrensday... This is not the sharpest photo, but I like that is shows the wings. To me, a wren in flight seems to have short, stubby wings, and it has to beat the air furiously to get anywhere. But here the the wings seem long and graceful.

The tractor shed is valuable bird habitat, with nesting pairs of House Wrens, Barn Swallows, and Eastern Phoebes.
This morning, I went there -- camera in hand -- and discovered that the baby phoebes are at the "fly, crash, rest, fly, crash, rest" stage of development.

This juvenile bluebird has discovered the dry cat food bowl I leave out. His sibling was just out of frame, watching with great interest. They're so cute when they're still learning how to Bird.

Gray Catbird. I like the way the bird's rusty orange rump matches the orange snow fence (part of my Garden Defense System™️).

The last few days, I’ve been serenaded by birds as I’ve worked in the garden. Actually, it’s been more like scolded or warned. The sounds have been coming both from the top of the tree in the background (a short whistled “PIUU”) and from the dense thicket below (“Tchik”). The birds remained out of sight, but I suspected Brown Thrashers.

No birding today: dangerously hot for an old crone. But! I have a special treat for you today:
#WomenGetShitDone, Part Deux
Nobody, but NOBODY, had studied Great Horned Owl-speak before Karla Bloem. Her owls had names, and you can hear 15 different vocalizations, each with its own meaning and context, and each credited to an owl by name.
Cool fact for the day: The software comes pre-installed and your owlet will begin hooting *in the egg.*

Important Update regarding the Northern Flicker Family in my yard.
I've still been seeing and hearing the flickers in the 10 days since the youngster left the nesting cavity.
This morning I saw 4 (four!) flickers together in a group, and I now believe there were indeed 2 babies (even though I never saw more than one at a time).
I was lucky to get this photo from the front porch.
