  1. Cysts of the parasite *Toxoplasma gondii* (which form in the brain and muscles) do not contain a single form of the parasite, as previously thought, but up to five different forms. The subpopulations have different developmental trajectories. This information may facilitate the development of more effective treatments.

  2. It can only be hoped that gynecologists, oncologists, psychiatrists, etc. are knowledgeable in their fields. Concerning Parasitology, they all too often display abject ignorance.

  4. @jzed74 @CaroltheCrone Really, him too? That’s disappointing but somehow not surprising.

Take a look at the posts I did on the #toxoplasmosis hypothesis that being infected with #SARS_COV_2 makes people more willing to facilitate spread of the virus. It may seem crazy but we are witnessing a mass delusion like I never imagined I’d see.

  5. 6/ Entertain the #toxoplasmosis hypothesis for a moment, implausible as you may find it. Let’s say a #virus that has been proven scientifically to #infect (not just inflame) human brains and to cause long-term negative changes in cognition actually has caused the right combination of such changes that result in its increased evolutionary success. I can defend this hypothesis as an engineer who has actually used #evolution to solve hard problems where the optimal solution is never known…

  10. Mind-Control —

When the parasite Toxoplasma Gondii infects a mouse it makes the mouse less fearful & more exploratory

This makes it more likely that the mouse will end up eaten by a cat and in the cat's belly, where the parasite can sexually reproduce

The mouse's behaviour is an adaptation — not for the mouse but for the parasite

  11. @arstechnica

"A parasite associated with bold behavior is also associated with wolf pack leadership, according to a new study"

With up to *half* of the world population infected with #ToxoplasmaGondii, studying it sounds like a smart idea.

Maybe also study how to get rid of the parasitic infection.

There's plenty of #aggression in the world already as things stand.

  12. @conradhackett A suggestion that #toxoplasmosis infection increases #attractiveness seems a step too far!

The @PeerJ article peerj.com/articles/13122/ included that, so it wasn't distorted by a press release or IFLScience.

A simpler explanation is that those judged more attractive may be more likely to have previously picked up an STI like toxoplasmosis. If they included a comparison to other common STIs, that could be controlled for. #EvolutionaryPsychology
