Ich glaube auch, dass einige vor allem die Menschen, die mir nahestehen, gar nicht begriffen haben, was das für mich bedeutet hat.
Ich schaue den #Eurovision seit 2000. Jedes Jahr. Ich lasse dafür alles stehen und liegen. Ich habe in Kauf genommen eine Stelle nicht angeboten zu bekommen weil ich auf jeden Fall in Basel leben wollte wenn der ESC in meine Schweizer Wahlheimat kommt.
Dass ich den ESC dieses Jahr nicht schauen konnte, bricht mir weiterhin das Herz. Ich empfand und empfinde das als einen tiefgehenden Verrat an einer Idee, die für mich persönlich Teil einer fundamentalen Überzeugung ist. Die auch mich als Menschen ausmacht. Es ist die schockierende Erkenntnis, dass die Menschen, die den ESC produzieren, nicht wissen, was sie da produzieren.
Das muss man nicht teilen. Aber es schmerzt mich, wenn ich das Gefühl habe, dass Menschen, die wissen sollten, was mir das alles bedeutet, das als eine Art moralisierenden Kinder-Wutausbruch interpretieren.

Ich musste feststellen, dass es in Sachen #Eurovision auch sehr unterschiedliche Menschen gibt.
Manche scheinen das vor allem als Event zu betrachten.
Und ich habe teils glaube ich etwas Unglauben und vor allem Belustigung geerntet, als ich meinte, ich boykottiere den ESC 2026.
Aber für mich ist der ESC mehr als das.
Für mich ist der ESC ein Austausch musikalischer Kultur. Für mich ist der ESC ein Fanal für den friedlichen, künstlerischen, gemeinsamen Wettbewerb um eine gute Zeit, um Gemeinschaft, Frieden, Miteinander. Für mich ist der ESC die liedgewordene Idee eines geeinten Europas, so strahlend, so wirksam, dass wir Mitglieder weit über die Grenzen Europas hinaus haben.
Und ich muss zugeben, es gibt Menschen, bei denen mich schmerzt, wenn sie dieses mein Gefühl nicht verstehen können. Nicht alle. Aber manche Menschen sind einem ja doch näher. Dachte man.

Zum ersten Mal seit Monaten mach ich mal wieder ein bisschen Karaoke. Instagram ist schuld und hat mich daran erinnert, dass ich ja auch mal wieder was Kreatives tun könnte.
Mein liebster Song der letzten Jahre beim #ESC #Eurovision ist und bleibt "La Noia" von Angelina Mango. Und ich kann ihn immer noch nicht ganz fehlerfrei, es gibt immer ein paar Wörter, über die ich drüber stolpere. Aber ich liebe ihn.
2026 gab es leider keinen ESC. Schade. Aber ich freue mich auf das nächste Jahr.

The Netherlands’ 🇳🇱 entry for #Eurovision 2023 was “Burning Daylight” by Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper. Maybe it’s because it’s not the usual kitschy Eurovision song why I like it a lot (and why it wasn’t in the final), but it actually reminds me of “Arcade” by Duncan Laurence that actually won the contest for the Netherlands in 2019 (and which I selected as one of my #TuneTuesday songs in 2024¹).

I would love to be able to come out and state that I will be boycotting Eurovision because of the inclusion of Israel in next year’s event. However, I have been boycotting Eurovision for all of my adult life on the grounds that I cannot stand it. When Russia invaded Ukraine the #NordicCountries decided they didn't want Russia to take part in #EuroVision. This year people in #Iceland tried to get a similar stance against #Israel and were told that would be too political and EuroVision isn't political.
Now the singer of the #Icelandic entry is at best naive about the situation while the song's writer has said the everyone should boycott this year's competition.
