A milestone (I look for them anywhere I can find them).
Yesterday, I finished editing the last of the “problem” chapters, or bleeders, from Book-6.
I always start with most difficult chapters when I’m fresh and eager, though I might get surprised later. With those done, I find myself 23% of the way through the targeted edit.
Embrace milestones when you can!
Be everwell.

Journalism and political analysis from India that shows how far corruption to corporate greed can go, the consequences for the poor and for "democracy". Great journalism and arguments without the preachiness of someone who claims to have all of the answers.
It's three pieces in one book. The titular piece is the account of walking with the vicious Maoists that politicians insist must be slaughtered and reflections on that experience and the history that led to this moment in time.
My favorite part though is the final part, 'Trickledown Revolution', which hits hard with cited examples for just how fucked the system that insists it works for the people has become while not shying away from pointing out the shortcomings of the opposition and the tragedies and atrocities that litter the path that brought those people directly involved to this point in history.

The first 9 chapters or so of Blackwater by Michael McDowell were pretty dry, much more Southern than Gothic, but then in chapter 10 spooky things finally start happening regularly and I'm into it. McDowell is at his best as a horror writer.

“To ban #books simply because they have a hardcover or they’re used is just trying to solve a problem that may exist in prison by finding the easiest target. And the easiest target they can find is to change the rules for what books can come in.” https://www.texasobserver.org/prison-crackdown-reading-access-profile/

I’m just barely past the ½-way point of this by @cstross and it is already fantastic.
There is a scene involving a vicar, a bureaucrat, and an intern who happens to be a v̶a̶m̶p̶i̶r̶e̶ sorry, a person with PHANG. It is hilarious due to — in equal parts — social norms, office politics, and marginalized communities.
Some may find the story disjointed and slow to start, but it merely needs the time and space to create the foundation of the action.
Excellent.

The Void - Dark sci-fi space opera.
Everett Creed:
In a universe where dictators hoard all the best criminal hustles, and mercilessly persecute those who seek to make their fortunes through morally dubious means, Everett sees an advantage in aligning with the resistance fighters who oppose Conn Teel.
But his reputation for dismembering those who cross him make him a hazardous potential ally.
