31. La distinción (Tiphaine Rivière). El mejor cómic que he leído en mucho tiempo. Traslada la obra homónima de Pierre Bourdieu (que llevo mucho tiempo queriendo leer y a la que todavía le tengo más ganas ahora) a un aula de instituto llena de adolescentes para reflexionar sobre cómo nuestros gustos y nuestro lugar en el mundo están más relacionados de lo que podríamos imaginar en un primer momento. Imposible no leerlo y recordar tu propia etapa formativa y tus propios gustos, planteándote hasta qué punto lo que te gusta viene de una elección verdaderamente libre o si vivimos unas vidas infinitamente más deterministas de lo que sería cómodo aceptar.

25. El acto de crear (Rick Rubin). Se suele decir que el diablo está en los detalles pero yo creo que más bien está en las expectativas. Cuando un colega me prestó un libro de Rick Rubin me lancé a leerlo emocionado porque Rubin no sólo es uno de los productores de definió el rock a finales de los 90 y principios de los 2000, también es la persona que rescató a un Johnny Cash mítico pero ya casi olvidado para industria y público y lo convirtió en una leyenda inmortal con sus American Recordings. Esperaba una lectura apasionante sobre música, rock y producción discográfica. Me encontré un ensayo no centrado en la música sino en la creatividad. Y tal vez ensayo no sea la palabra correcta, son más bien aforismos un tanto desarrollados. Es un libro que nunca podré juzgar de manera justa porque las expectativas lo habían condenado para mí antes de abrir la primera página. Vine a por memorias y me llevé aforismos.

All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. So under the spell of the reefer I discovered a new analytical way of listening to music. The unheard sounds came through, and each melodic line existed of itself, stood out clearly from all the rest, said its piece, and waited patiently for the other voices to speak. That night I found myself hearing not only in time, but in space as well. I not only entered the music but descended, like Dante, into its depths.
