Finally. It took the shutdown of half the country due to weather to get me to finally edit and publish "The Last Test," a regrettably prescient story by H.P. #Lovecraft and Adolphe de Castro, first published in November, 1928's #WeirdTales. Enjoy, if you happen to have internet connectivity and power!

Mainstream media whipping up panic and spreading fake news about an epidemic? In MY Lovecraft? It's more likely than you'd think!

  29. #TimeTravelAuthors 13. How realistic is your story?

The plot? Not realistic at all. I consider “Bijou the Time Traveling Ghost” deliberate #pulp. I blend time travel with Lovecraftian #WeirdTales, #Illuminati conspiracy theories, historical events, and outright #surrealism.

Historical events and time periods are presented as accurately as possible. Some things, like Amelia Earhart’s crash, are speculative but presented realistically as if they had been true.

It’s my speciality blending realistic historical settings with the surreal supernatural.

PS: Two days ago I forgot #HitoricalFantasy but I don’t know the tropes there either.

  34. “Dorothy K. Haynes’ weird fiction is truly the stuff of nightmares, where horrors cruel and mundane are interwoven with threads of dark fairy folklore and twisted witchcraft to deliver heady supernatural thrills”

In 2024, the British Library published The Weird Tales of Dorothy K. Haynes, with illustrations by Mervyn Peake

  35. #PulpFiction #magazines, like #AmazingStories, #WeirdTales, #DocSavage, #TheShadow, & hundreds more, pulled us through the 1940s toward the millennium.

For 30+ years #RustyHevelin ran the original #PulpCon here in #DaytonOhio. Collectors visited us annually. Now, we've essentially run out of #PulpMagazines & the evolved #PulpFest has moved to PA. I miss the books & their fans.

#Pulps are fragile & difficult to find in any condition. Perhaps we let some go too easily...

Ilepro stared into the sapphire and made a motion with her free hand, meanwhile reciting something in her native tongue. Although she went too fast for Derezong Taash to understand, he caught a word, several times repeated, that shook him to the core. The word was “Tr’lang."

And, ere the tomb-thrown echoings have ceased,
The blue-eyed vampire, sated at her feast,
Smiles bloodily against the leprous moon.

  40. A.Merritt, a forgotten master of weird fiction. His work ranges from horror (Burn Witch Burn) to epic fantasy (the delightful The Ship of Ishtar). The Face in the Abyss (1931) is a blend of dark fantasy and the 19th century adventure tale in the style of H. Rider Haggard, with a dash of Conan Doyle.

And it features a great lost world. Great fun.
