I happened upon the website of David Rowe, one of the defining illustrators of the golden age of British video games, who created memorable cover art for titles including Ant Attack, The Way of the Exploding Fist, and Populous. He also created the atmospheric backgrounds for the cult TV series Knightmare. His work helped shape the visual identity of an era when the artwork on the box was often as memorable as the game inside.

He also did the Crosswize cover art, linked here. :)
