  1. Creepy no. 11 (1966)

A rather unusual-looking Frazetta, much more brightly coloured and lit than most of his output, but a great composition and sense of movement.

  4. Creepy no. 73 (1975)

I absolutely love this one. The airbrushing is terrific and the composition and movement are great.

If I had a note, it would be that I have no idea how big that space ship is or how far away, because everything's so clear. But it's space, it would be!

  7. Weird Tales vol. 40, no. 5 (July 1948)

Did they not know what unicorns looked like in 1948? Or wait, is our current view of unicorns whitewashed and woke and everyone should know they really have a horn down by their nose.

  11. Hi! I'm a bot posting Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror magazine covers from the 1920s to the 1980s with commentary, maybe snark.

Sourced from archive.org, where you can read the original magazines.

  13. Weird Tales vol. 20, no. 5 (November 1932)

Absolutely love the dynamism of this, lots of drama and movement. At first I thought there was a bigger boat behind him but that's a ragged sail. The boat looks vaguely Norse, is it just me?

  15. Worlds of IF (January 1954)

Nice, old-fashioned illustration, showing us how the fish are like the submarines and vice versa. It reminds me of illustrations like The Little Red Engine, a staple of my childhood and my son's. I've kept in on hand in case of grandchildren.

When I saw this the first time I got a kind of negative-space thing and saw the vehicle as a giant bird's head. Medical malpractice lawyers please contact me to help with my lawsuit.

No seriously this is really interesting and fulfils the purpose: I want to read the story now.

  19. Astounding vol. 29, no. 5 (July 1942)

This has absolutely zero Science Fiction/Fantasy content at all, as far as I can see (unless there's something very subtle I can't understand), and is just a Fourth Of July edition.

  21. Weird Tales vol. 25, no. 5 (May 1935)

It's relatively rare that I just don't understand the image—often I don't know what the story is, but I don't know what's going on in the image here. Are those hands holding a mask? Grabbing someone's face?

  25. Newsstand on an SF Bay ferry (the Piedmont, specifically), 1930s. Grab your beer and your copy of “Spicy Mystery Stories” on the way home from work (or maybe the reverse trip?). #1930s #Ephemera #PulpFiction

  26. Taken from the "Rails to San Francisco Bay" by Harre W. Demoro & Vernon J. Sappers (Quadrant Press, New York, 1991), this here photo depicts commuters browsing through pulp magazines available on the newsstand aboard the Piedmont (bay ferry long-since scuppered). Dates from the mid-1930s, apparently - I could pinpoint it by sourcing all the individual magazine issues, but don’t have the time or energy. We used to have bad things, but also nice things - I'll take this over smartphone hypnosis any day of the week. #1930s #PulpFiction #SanFrancisco #SFBayArea

  31. Worlds of IF (July 1962)

I love the sheer insanity of this and the calm, gloomy expression on the turtle's face.

I wrote in the alt text that there's either a castle or a rocket on a launch pad off in the distance, because I really don't know.

  33. Harvey Weinstein Los Angeles Conviction Upheld, Re-sentencing Ordered

A California appeals court has upheld the 2022 sexual assault conviction of Harvey Weinstein, though the court has ordered that the former producer be re-sentenced. The unanimous decision from the California 2nd District Court of Appeals affirms the original conviction while vacating the previous sentence....

  34. Creepy no. 114 (1980)

To me the strangest thing about this thing is the colour of the space suit. Is this the fashion in the future? I like all the creatures though, great inventiveness on the part of the artist.
