This is the second train gravestone I've seen, this one much earlier than the first, and I noticed this gravestone that looks like it might have been paid for by a woodworkers union and says "killed" rather than "death"

When Lizzie Siddal, wife of the Pre-Raphaelite artist and poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti died, Rossetti was so distraught he took the only copy of his poems and wrapped it in her beautiful red hair as she lay in her coffin. She was buried in Highgate Cemetery, but seven years later - realising he'd buried some of his best verse - Rossetti allowed himself to be persuaded to have her exhumed. The coffin lid was levered off to reveal that Lizzie's splendid hair had grown, with metres of it filling the casket. She was also, apparently, almost perfectly preserved, with death's pallor granting her a phantom beauty. Rossetti couldn't bear to be at the exhumation and it's possible this story was invented by his less-than-honest business manager Charles Augustus Howell. You can read about this story and many other equally strange ones in my new book 'Atlas Gothica: An Alternative Guide to the World's Most Curious Destinations' (Hachette). few nights ago, we went graveyarding in the dead of night, and a Magpie moth flew into our torch beams and onto a fallen gravestone.
