Spent yesterday at Boroondara Cemetery in Kew, Victoria. One of the nicest garden cemeteries I've come across in Australia. The volunteers there do an enormous job keeping it all from being swallowed up by the greenery.

I'm putting this out for any Jews who feel like they don't want to criticize another denomination.
This is bullshit. There is no religious reason to bar suicides from our cemeteries. Not facilitating funerals is your choice, of course, but it's cruel to the living. What's next? Shrimp and tattoos? Meh.

Cemitério do Alto de São João was the biggest necropolis in Lisbon, built during an 1833 cholera epidemic, and it is genuinely eerie: family crypts with doors that look wrenched open, a memorial to those who died in fascist-era concentration camps, and views over the Tagus that make the detour worth it. 💁🏻♀️ TIL: 🔪🔒 Archaeologists in #Pień, #Poland uncovered a 400-year-old grave of a young woman buried with a sickle across her neck and a padlock on her toe, defenses against the dead rising.
#DNA and isotope analysis showed she was wealthy, grew up locally, and suffered malnutrition. The grave was reopened later to add the objects, as the community feared her even after death.

For Chinese #pioneers who died in Canada, Victoria's Chinese Cemetery at #HarlingPoint was a temporary resting place until their bones could be returned home. (Traditional Chinese belief says that the soul of a person who dies in a foreign place wanders lost until their bones are returned home.) This film traces the rich history of the #VancouverIsland cemetery from controversy and neglect to its revival as a #historic site. Told by those closest to it, the story of Harling Point is a metaphor for #Canada , a country still working on making a home for all who live within its borders.
