I'm putting this out for any Jews who feel like they don't want to criticize another denomination.
This is bullshit. There is no religious reason to bar suicides from our cemeteries. Not facilitating funerals is your choice, of course, but it's cruel to the living. What's next? Shrimp and tattoos? Meh.
"A landmark letter on #MAID, approved recently by #Toronto’s main #Orthodox #rabbinical council—also called the #VaadHaRabbanim—is sounding the alarm about what the group notes is the increasing prevalence of medically assisted death making “inroads” into the local #Jewish community. Citing the figure of 5,000 patients in #Ontario in 2023 who the council describes as being “#euthanized by medical practitioners”, the leading rabbis said they need to take steps to “curb this disturbing trend”: going forward, they will not officiate at the #funerals of MAID patients and will refuse to permit MAID patients to be buried in plots in their #synagogues’ #cemetery sections."

No one knows Louise's real story. Legend has it that she traveled to Natchez sometime after the Civil War in search of her fiancé. For reasons unknown, she found herself stranded and husbandless.
Too proud to return home, she became a seamstress, maid, then "woman of the night." After dying in her mid-20s, a mysterious benefactor paid for her funeral and this headstone, more than what most paupers received.
