Spent yesterday at Boroondara Cemetery in Kew, Victoria. One of the nicest garden cemeteries I've come across in Australia. The volunteers there do an enormous job keeping it all from being swallowed up by the greenery.

This is bullshit. There is no religious reason to bar suicides from our cemeteries. Not facilitating funerals is your choice, of course, but it's cruel to the living. What's next? Shrimp and tattoos? Meh.

After my film, I cut through the old boneyard of Saint Cuthbert's to have a look & take pics at the festive fair & market in the nearby Princes Street Gardens.
I lasted twenty minutes before it annoyed the smeg out of me. Too loud, far too busy. I think I preferred the old bone orchard! Tombs with a Castle view!

Donald Trump's #mental #state appears to have further #deteriorated since last night’s news about a new grand jury’s #superseding #indictment of him on charges of trying to overthrow the 2020 presidential election.
Over the course of about four hours this morning, Trump #posted #50 #times on his social media platform, mostly reposting material that was associated with #QAnon, #violent, #authoritarian, or #conspiratorial.
🔸He suggested he is “100% INNOCENT,” and that the indictment is a “Witch Hunt.”
🔸He called for trials and jail for special counsel Jack #Smith, former president Barack #Obama, and the members of Congress who investigated the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
🔸And he reposted a sexual insult about the political careers of both Vice President Kamala #Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary #Clinton.Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign has today escalated the fight about Trump’s photo op Monday at #Arlington #National #Cemetery, where campaign staff took photos and videos in Section 60, the burial ground of recent veterans, apparently over the strong objections of cemetery officials.
Then the campaign released photos and a video from the visit attacking Harris.
A statement from the Arlington National Cemetery reiterated:
♦️“Federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, to include photographers, content creators or any other persons attending for purposes, or in direct support of a partisan political candidate's campaign. ♦️
⭐️Arlington National Cemetery reinforced and widely shared this law and its prohibitions with all participants.
We can confirm there was an incident, and a report was filed.”Arlington National Cemetery was established on the former property of General Robert E. Lee in 1864,
after the Lee family did not pay their property taxes.
At the time, Lee was leading Confederate forces against the United States government, and those buried in the cemetery in its early years were those killed in the Civil War.
The cemetery is one of two in the United States that is under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army, and it is widely considered hallowed ground. -

By the way, graves cost a lot more than you think. If you want to be buried someday, it’s worth looking into it now (while you can shop around and make payments) rather than waiting until it’s an urgent need.
Different cemeteries offer differ things. Some allow caskets to be stacked within a grave like eternal bunk beds. If you think you *might* want to do that to save space and money while keeping family together, it’s much easier to arrange when the FIRST occupant is buried. They dig the grave deeper to leave space for the second person above. If that isn’t done, then it’s a slightly more difficult and expensive process later (when Body 2 dies, Body 1 must be dug up, then the grave is dug deeper, then they replant Body 1 before the funeral for Body 2).
There are also options to consider, like mausoleum crypts, columbariums for urns, or urns buried above caskets in the ground.
When you buy your cemetery property, you don’t actually *own* the land. What you own is the right to bury in that space. Be sure to read the cemeteries rules and restrictions before purchasing. Then you won’t be surprised about what headstones they allow or what decorations are permitted.
Another thing! When you buy your cemetery property, there will be extra costs. Buying the grave doesn’t mean your funeral is taken care of. There are fees to open and close the grave and some cemeteries require the use of a vault (outer burial container). You need to pay for that AND a setting fee because they’re super heavy. Headstones, markers, vases etc are extra.
You’ll usually have to pay a fee called Endowment Care or Perpetual Care. That money is collected into a fund and the interest is used for cemetery maintenance after they’ve stopped making money.
It adds up! Do your homework NOW!

For #TombTuesdays. In #Aoyama #Cemetery in #Tokyo there is a section where foreigners are buried. In it, this tombstone, Annie Mary Baty, 1872-1945. I did some research; Annie, her sibling Thomas, and their mother are all buried in Aoyama. They were all born in the UK but followed to Japan when Thomas went to work as an adviser to the Japanese government in 1916, through WWII and after; their citizenship was revoked, and so they are buried here. 1/2
