I found an article on this on the Daily Mail website, which for once had a link to the above. Seems interesting. I perhaps need to re-read parts of my Open University book on How the universe works, as a refresh for Brane and String theory. But it does seem interesting.
Going by the DM comments the term 'Big Bang' is still causing confusion, as it implies an explosion, rather than inflation.

Earlier this year, while working on my next book ("Light and the Dark Cosmos") I suddenly found myself technically way out of my depth on the use of galaxy brightness and redshifts to measure the expansion of the universe. At nearby distances, like the Virgo Supercluster, I was OK. But at cosmological distances, beyond the Laniakea Supercluster, I was fumbling around.
