yeah, it does hurt.I’ve been in this hobby for 30+ years now. And since I am an early adopter of the internet I followed some creators for a very long time.
But things are changing fast and some things I cannot tolerate any longer. And that is the use of AI/LLM for creating pictures. [No, you’re not creating art you tell a machine to slop together pixels]
Why can I not tolerate this? For two main reasons (possibly more but I don’t think i need to get into more detail on this)
- Picture generating AIs are trained on stolen material. Full stop. End of line. If you don’t understand why using stolen goods to your advantage is wrong then I can’t help you.
- Every generated picture (and I mean every iteration of your prompt slop and not just the one you put into your project or on your video thumbnail) has a massive environmental impact. If you want to read more about it go here.
So what is hurting me? The simple fact that I started to unfollow, unsubscribe and to even block people on the basis of their careless use of AI.
„But I can’t create these pictures myself!“ – have you even tried? And why must your thumbnail be in Studio Ghibli style? Just try it. Learn a new skill. Will it be perfect? Hell no. But it will be yours. Own your art.
AI has it’s use cases and has some pretty interesting fields to be used in. But creating thumbnails for your videos ain’t one.
Most people reading this probably won’t care and that’s fine. Everyone has to draw a line for themselves somewhere. Mine is here. Thank you for reading.

@Maren_gestreift Man kann vom Bild ableiten, was ganz oben steht, an erster Stelle, daß man in Klassen denkt, diese sind auf dem Bild gruppiert. Außerdem erweckt es den Anschein, als drücke man für Auto, Flugzeug und Schiff auf "Ja ich will". Entweder ist das Bild von Profis gemacht, dann ist die Bildsprache erfolgreich, oder es saßen Laien dran und es ist unglücklich gestaltet, was für ein Ministerium beides inakzeptabel wäre. Ich steige hier aus, verarschen kann ich mich selber.

En cette fin d'année, n'hésitez pas à prendre le temps de réévaluer vos idoles/mentors. Ce n'est pas parce que ces personnes vous ont inspirés/aidés à un moment de votre vie que vous leurs êtes redevables ad vitam. Si vous n’êtes plus en adéquation avec leurs discours actuels, vous pouvez unfollow sans regrets. Elle n'ont pas gagné de passe-droit parce qu'elle étaient éloquente sur un sujet.

I have been trying a new way to use #Mastodon / #Fediverse for a week or so now.
What I do is, a few times a day, when I see a name / user go by in my timeline that I don't recognize, if their post is even a tiny bit in my wheelhouse, I follow them.
Sometimes, after a couple of days, I realize they're not frequently posting things that engage me (which is fine!), and I un-follow them.
But mostly, it's great. Either they're posting interesting things I wouldn't have seen otherwise, or they're boosting such, giving me stuff to follow that I wouldn't have found on my own.
("Duh, that's how you're supposed to use fedi" replies unnecessary.)

A pesar de haberle dado #unfollow a varias cuentas en X el número de personas que sigo no ha disminuido y hasta he visto que perfiles a los que dejé de seguir siguen ahí en mi lista de siguiendo.
¿Será que a X no le llegó el memo que hay cuentas que ya no quiero seguir o es que el botón de unfollow es una mentira?

I took another look at the offending person and noticed that the person is only pushing articles, almost exclusively associated with the company he is working for. I can't even find any interaction. This is just #advertising.
I don't mind a little #advertising (since I'm also doing it) but this was a clear corporate lackey account. So #unfollow seemed like a better solution.
I love people, not robots. 🥰

Welp...
#Twitch pushed an updated Twitch app onto my #PS4Pro this morning when I started it up and it's an abomination
I can't imagine what the devs where thinking
It's like it assumes you're starting from zero and have no idea what Twitch is or how to use it
I did get it to show me my #Followed channels at startup
But when I select a #Channel I already follow it starts at the streamer profile screen with #UnFollow selected
Like, I'm going to start up a stream I follow and what I'm going to want to do is unfollow that streamer?
From there it takes a <down-right-right-right> to get #Chat open, and then a <left> to close chat and just watch the stream in full-screen
Wow...
