My Three Good Things Today
1. After having listened to the book 'A Gentleman in Moscow' audiobook at least 4 times, I finally ordered an actual physical copy and it arrived this morning! It will be our bedtime reading and I'm really looking forward to starting it (again).
2. After our 'professional' cat nail trimmer decided just to pack up her business and simply not turn up to her appointments, we have had to trim our own cats' claws, as nervous as we are about it. Zaz has thickened and curled dew claws that risk ingrowing and once we had to pay $65 to have a technician at the vet trim them. They loved her and said we'd be welcome to bring her back any time. (For $65? Ummm. No. Emergency only.) Ping Pong is really frantic about having hers done, as well, so it can be a fraught experience. But today's trim went quickly and smoothly. Hooray us! More power to our clippers!
3. We managed to get out for a 10km bike ride for about 45 minutes this afternoon and it was lovely. It barely rained at all and was cool and pleasant. A short ride, but enough to make us feel good. It's a kind of therapy.

Life A Users Manual by Georges Perec
Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier (work book club)Might just pick up another DuMaurier when I'm done, because it's *great* but we read Cold Comfort Farm in my other book club and now I'm keen to read more by Stella Gibbons. Swiss Summer is now in the TBR.

A thoroughly well meant gesture from the queen and an excellent book from an excellent author, but will this succeed in getting children excited by reading that aren't already? To develop their own love for reading, children need agency, a chance to choose "their thing" or discover what their thing might be, without a reading scheme or well meaning adult telling them what they should read next. Librarians and knowledgeable independent booksellers are worth their weight in gold and I would love to take any class I teach to our local bookshop to each choose their own book to keep. Oeps, er kwamen twee luisterboeken tussen ("Die Lüge" en "Blutbuch") maar nu eindelijk begonnen aan "Brandend geheugen" van de Tsjechische auteur Marek Torcik.
Ik lees het samen met mijn buren en een van hen komt ook uit Tsjechië. Ben benieuwd wat zij ervan vindt.

@kimlockhartga Just started The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai. So far I'm enjoying it.
Edit: I forgot to mention it's from the library which is how I read most books these days. I still buy a few books but not many.
