  1. CW: Trigger warning

I have read two of Tillie Walden's publications, "Spinning" and "are you listening?", and both are excellent graphic novels that I would absolutely recommend reading. However, I would like to issue a trigger warning as both stories contain scenes of sexual violence.

  6. Graphic Novel Recommendation: "Are You Listening?" by Tillie Walden

I’m currently reading this graphic novel while enjoying a few days off before heading back to work, and I’m loving it! It’s a beautifully written story about two women and a cat on a road trip, blended with a touch of magical realism.

I really enjoyed this historical fiction about a female doctor and man of mystery set during the English Civil War.

I think they have a mutual admiration society going there.
PS Incidentally, if you haven't read the book The Correspondent by Virginia Evans, I highly recommend it. An excellent read and an even better audiobook.

  13. Yes, yes, I finally made it to my favourite graphic novel shop to pick up the book "Spent" by the fantastic Alison Bechdel.

Now just a cup of tea, and it’s time to start reading…

  19. Just finished reading my 15th book of the year. Most have been fiction and nearly all have been audiobooks. I spent a lot of time driving this winter. Now that I'm home and have plenty to do here to keep me busy, I suspect I'll do a lot less #reading, but my goal is still to read 100 bucks before the end of the year.

I am tracking these on Story Graph (free version), using the app on my iPad. I've decided that I don't like Goodreads' connection to Amazon. app.thestorygraph.com/profile/

Audiobook version, of course. I expect to be behind the wheel for at least 20 hours over the next week. I'll probably knock this one off before tomorrow and then maybe start on one mentioned in it. I've never actually read any Jules Verne or H.G. Wells.🤔

  21. I've been on a spree of reading this series of murder-mysteries. They are easy to read, have a layer of humour, a cast of likable characters, and have just a bit of magic in the background.

  22. Just finished this. It did get better. After hearing from a fedifriend that her work improved with later books, I will try another.

My goal is to read 100 books this year. So far I've read eight so I'm doing pretty well. #IAmReading #reading

I save reading recommendations that I see on here all the time, but I need to start noting who made the rec so that I can thank them when it turns out to be golden.

So, to the person who spoke about "The Dog Stars", by Peter Heller, thank you so very much. I am only a short way in, and except to break away to write this post, I am entirely captured.

  28. So the Oxford University Press Word of the year is "rage bait" which narrowly fought off aura farming and biohack. Last year it was brainrot. Humanity's relationship with social media clearly isn't healthy. We need to show more discernment in our reading procurement. I would rather ask a librarian rather than Musk's or Zuckerberg's algorithms what to read next. An hour in your local library beats an hour scrolling. Your brain will thank you. #wordoftheyear #iamreading #OUP #readbetter bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cewjxq
