Woke up at 3:49 AM , certain that I had set my alarm for 3:45 AM. When I checked, I discovered it had been set to 3:45 PM. Oops. Close call when I plan to catch the hotel shuttle to the airport at 4:30 AM.
Meanwhile, outside my hotel window, it looks like a hurricane. High winds, rain, and there might be occasional hail beating against my window. Alaska Air says an on-time departure at 7:03 AM. We'll see. Weather forecast does not look good.

Back in Atlanta. Dropped off my luggage at my hotel BEFORE returning the rental car so I'm not dealing with luggage on the way to the hotel. Now I'm waiting for the hotel shuttle bus. I'm really looking forward to being home. #travel

For those of you who are curious, I went with my radar, a really full featured weather app with the radar I need. $40 a year. More than I wanted to spend but we'll see how I feel about it at the end of a year. So far, it looks good.
Anyway, here's my weather situation. Storm is coming up from the Gulf and should be abeam Atlanta tomorrow midday. My flight leaves at about 7:15 AM so I should be able to get out on time, provided the airplane is already sitting there for us.

We did our big show and tell in the cafeteria after dinner. I now see at least two other classes I'd like to take so I'll probably be back next summer for a few weeks. This really is a great place to come and learn laboratory and various jewelry making skills. Highly recommended. The classes are quite affordable, as is the lodging. https://lapidaryschool.org

Had a debate with a somewhat obnoxious woman at dinner tonight. She seemed to believe that hurricane and tropical storm weather is only right on the line on the weather map. On either side of the line the weather could be anything, even a sunny day.
Is it possible that someone can be unaware that tropical weather systems can extend for possibly hundreds of miles on either side of the path? Apparently so.
Related: it looks as if I might be driving in the rain tomorrow afternoon.

Knocked out this matched pair of Kingman #Turquoise, spiny oyster shell, and bronze while waiting for some gue to dry. #lapidary #rocks

I bought a thermal tumbler here at the school because open containers are not allowed in the classrooms. I am thrilled with it. It's the perfect size and shape for me. It keeps my coffee hot in the morning and my iced tea cold all afternoon. I think the only reason I've never used one of these is because I never had one I liked. This one is a keeper (despite the pukey color)!

Today is the last full day of class. I'm probably going to work on creating stones for a jewelry project I first sketched back in March 2022. It looks like I'm going to use a piece of Sonoran sunrise (or sunset, depending on who you talk to) stone, which is primarily red, for the stones in this piece. Here's the sketch. The finished piece should be about 2 1/2 inches tall in sterling silver.

The pain in my left hand is what woke me at 4:30 AM. My finger and hand don't look any different but it is stiffer and sorer. The finger is still blown up like a balloon, but at least it's a normal color. I'm waiting for two ibuprofen to kick in. My daily alternating doses of ibuprofen and Tylenol have been helping throughout the day, as long as I remember to take the next dose before the serious pain kicks in again. My doctor appointment is midday on Monday back home. This is getting old.🙄

Here's another piece of a rock I bought at the auction last night. This one is Petosky Stone (fossil coral) from Michigan. I cut the rock into slabs (see second photo) and picked a small slab to cab. Came out better than I expected. This is a little bigger than a US/Canadian quarter. 😊 #lapidary #rocks

This is my instructor's work for sale here. Any interest in something? I can take better pictures. #jewelry #silversmithing #lapidary

Here's another work in progress. This is some sort of agate with druzy. I bought the slab the other day and when I started trimming it to the right shape, it kept breaking outside the lines. 😳 There are cracks in it and I applied some superglue to the back. I'm not sure if that's what made it possible to polish it as much as I did. But there are tiny scratches in it so I need to polish it again. Let's hope I don't break it. #lapidary #rocks

Yesterday’s Travels Today
I couldn’t have asked for a better daily prompt.
Let me start this post with a little good news for me. Dagmara and her superb team at SpillWords published another piece from me. If you are willing, here is the link. https://spillwords.com/author/erniedawg
Daily writing prompt What’s the best way to meet new people while traveling? View all responsesI woke up blessed and grateful yesterday morning and the day just kept getting better. I started the morning with only 1 1/2 cups of caffeine before going to a city about 35 miles down the highway. my recent prayers were fulfilled. I am with wheels once again! {Click on the smaller pics to enlarge.}
Eric, the man I bought it from told me it had been garage kept for the first 16 years of it’s life. The last two winters it sat in a field in the UP. he had complete service records and by listening to him and looking at this truck I can truly say he babied it. He offered me a sweet price, a deal was made. So after test driving it my son and I took off for a little byway travels to see how it rode, I love it.
I made a left turn somewhere in the middle of nowhere and was 17 miles from South Bend Indiana. That’s around a 140 mile ride today. On this travel we stopped in Sturgis MI to grab some cat/dog [the pepper chicken was tasty] then walked across the parking lot to the discount cigarette store. As we walked in the cashier was staring at the manger and a customer that was caught stealing vapes.
After the manager tossed the guy he apologized and explained to the cashier if it should happen when he wasn’t around to call the police. We stood around talking to them for almost a half an hour before heading back. It was her first day at the job so we joked about her getting broke in quick and had a little time of enjoyment between us all. I guess this would be the answer to not only the prompt but also prayers. Keep the faith.
