The Crown Theatre, Eccles : 1899 – 2019

Once, The Crown was called one of the "prettiest in the north."

In the early years the stage hosted Shakespearean dramas and revues. In the 1930s, it was converted into a cinema. By the 1960s it found a new life as a bingo hall.

Closing in the 1980s, it fell into ruins.

Eventually, in 2019, a large fire destroyed it leaving only the facade standing.

@jack It was scary here too in #Eccles for a short time, hurricane like winds and hailstones, in addition to the rain!

#parkrun tourism at Worsley Woods, #Eccles, in the west of Greater #Manchester The first mile out and last mile back was flat and straight on a cycle path. The middle mile was up and down on a trail through the woods. Some short steep bits and a couple of flights of steps! All in shade which was a relief. Over 500 runners on a narrow start path. The volunteers use a PA system so everyone can hear the briefing 📢
