The Secretary of State for #Transport has confirmed the Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive’s Compulsory Purchase Order 2025, allowing the #Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to acquire seven bus depots and land for future expansion.
Following a public inquiry in July 2026, the Secretary of State accepted the inspector’s recommendation that the order should proceed. The depots are considered essential to a fair, competitive and resilient franchised bus network, supporting electric vehicle charging, fleet decarbonisation and other infrastructure.
The Secretary of State found a compelling public-interest case for the acquisition, while all objections had been withdrawn. The order includes a minor modification removing “approximately” from the schedule of the 22 plots.
