Network Rail has reminded pet owners to keep dogs secure near the railway after a cairn terrier was safely rescued near Hitchin. Maddie wandered onto a railway embankment and was located in dense undergrowth using a #British #Transport Police drone. Network Rail mobile operations manager Martin Mason safely coaxed her away before she reached the track. Drones provide live aerial images to help teams monitor difficult-to-access areas and respond quickly to incidents. They are also used to locate trespassers, assess railway equipment after lineside fires and inspect flood-hit sites more efficiently. Mason said the rescue had a happy outcome but warned that animals on the railway pose serious safety risks and can disrupt train services. The incident did not affect rail operations.
