Urgent call for solidarity with Kazakhstani queers

On November 12, 2025, the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan passed a law banning the "propaganda" of "non-traditional sexual orientation and pedophilia"; now this law is in the final stage of adoption---the next discussion of the Senate is on December 18. This law, in essence, criminalizes the open existence of LGBTQ+ people in public spaces, both physical and digital. The adoption of this law means that LGBTQ+ people who speak openly about their lives, experiences, identities, relationships, and rights will risk hefty fines and even detention (for 10 days). It also means that any activism and advocacy for the rights and interests of LGBTQ+ people, even the basic rights to exist without fear, violence, or the need to hide and conceal their identity and relationships, will be threatened with intimidation and violence by the authorities and severe penalties.

The rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ people in Kazakhstan are already severely infringed on, even without draconian laws. Even now, before the law is fully adopted, brave Kazakhstani queer activists who fight against the law and violations of LGBTQ+ rights are being arrested, tortured, forced to pay big fines, and monitored and persecuted by the authorities.

One doesn't have to look far for a realistic prediction of the consequences of such laws. Russia passed such a law in 2013, and according to numerous studies, violence against LGBT people, both from the authorities and ordinary people, has increased dramatically, stigma and discrimination have intensified, and the health of LGBTQ+ people has deteriorated.

Actie Bij Aedes. Weiger De Huurverhoging!

De maat is vol. Op 1 juli komt er een nieuwe huurexplosie en worden huurders wederom opgezadeld met stijgende woonlasten. De tweejarige huurbevriezing voor sociale huur in de corporatiesector is definitief van tafel geveegd. Minister Mona Keijzer greep de val van het kabinet-Schoof direct aan om het halfbakken wetsvoorstel, dat veel groepen huurders al uitsloot, terug te trekken. De rekening? Die wordt opnieuw bij ons, de huurders, neergelegd.

Wij zeggen: Genoeg is genoeg. Wij eisen huurverlaging!

De woningcorporaties, verenigd in hun lobbyclub Aedes, hebben actief gelobbyd vóór de huurverhoging. De huren rijzen al jaren de pan uit, waardoor veel huurders financieel klem zitten. Grootschalige investeringen vanuit de overheid in brede volkshuisvesting en verduurzaming blijven uit. De overheid laat huurders al jaren letterlijk in de kou zitten. De wooncrisis komt niet uit de lucht vallen. Het recht op wonen wordt al tientallen jaren systematisch afgebroken.

Aedes kiest duidelijk voor hogere huren, niet voor mensen. Aedes strijdt structureel tégen maatregelen die huurders moeten helpen, zoals huurbevriezing of verlaging. Terwijl kopers jaarlijks € 11 miljard ontvangen via de hypotheekrenteaftrek, worden sociale huurders ondertussen extra belast via de vennootschapbelasting. Hiermee worden de rijken bevoordeeld ten koste van de armen.

Het is tijd dat wij zelf opstaan. Voor ons recht op waardig wonen. Voor lagere huren. Voor een eerlijke toekomst.

Op 27 juni om 13:00 verzamelen wij ons bij het kantoor van Aedes in Den Haag op Anna van Buerenplein 42 (vlak naast Den Haag Centraal). Wij komen met onze eisen én met een zwartboek: met verhalen van huurders over de impact van torenhoge huren. Wij leggen ons niet neer bij hun beleid van afbraak. Wij eisen:

• Huurverlaging voor iedereen

• Woonzekerheid voor iedereen

• Zeggenschap voor huurders

• Structurele investeringen in echte volkshuisvesting

• Stop met het intimideren van huurders die hun huurverhoging weigeren
