  1. The pretty village of Linton, in Yorkshire, has a most unusual ghost. Legend says that during the Civil War, a Royalist horseman was entrusted with an important letter to deliver. The rider was, however, intercepted by a party of Parliamentarians who decapitated him. Despite missing his head, the rider was somehow able to continue and he delivered his message into the hands of Linton's curate before expiring. The curate, though, may have been a Cromwellian agent, a suspicion that seems to have led the horseman's headless ghost to frequently re-enact his dramatic ride. The spectre has not been seen in recent years, perhaps suggesting the missive has finally reached the correct - though undoubtedly long-dead - hands. #gothic #weird #paranormal #ghosts #Yorkshire #spookysunday #folklore #mythology #history

  7. 🚲 South #Yorkshire is set to launch a new e-bike hire scheme next spring, giving residents the option to take bikes home on long-term loans rather than using them only for short trips. The scheme, part of the South Yorkshire People’s Network, aims to make e-bikes more affordable and give people greater flexibility in their everyday travel.

Mayor Oliver Coppard said the service would help people who have been priced out of alternative travel choices to access #cycling and make better use of new bike lanes and cycle networks.

Backed by £1.3m, the first 275 e-bikes are now being procured ahead of the planned spring 2027 launch. The scheme will use a tiered pricing model designed to keep costs affordable and has been informed by research and existing e-bike loan schemes in Barnsley, #Doncaster, #Rotherham and #Sheffield.

Further details on pricing, eligibility and registration will be announced before launch.

  12. A path well royally trodden – framed in the lychgated entrance, the Church of St Mary and St Alkelda in the North Yorkshire village of Middleham, near Leyburn in Wensleydale.
Grade I listed, the ancient church dates from the 13th century and was where Richard, Duke of Gloucester (later Richard III) once worshipped.
King Richard spent several years during his childhood at Middleham Castle and which later became one of his royal homes.

  14. What am I reading?

The Viaduct Killings by Wes Markin, set in Knaresborough in Yorkshire, which is what attracted me to the book, but I am enjoying it. Cosy Crime backdrop but the true story is in the characters, the interplay between them and their history.

Also, Ancient Rome by Simon Baker - you can guess from the title what it is about! It's based on a BBC TV series, though I didn't know that when I chose it, but that hasn't stopped me enjoying it, and learning something.
